German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that European Union (EU) member states must be prepared to transfer powers over to Brussels at a debate on the tensions between globalisation and national sovereignty.
Nation states must today be prepared to give up their sovereignty, Merkel said, speaking at an event organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin on Wednesday.
In an orderly fashion of course, Merkel said, explaining that while Germany had given up some of its sovereignty in order to join the EU, national parliaments were in charge of deciding whether to sign up to international treaties.
Trust and the willingness to compromise are vital in addressing tensions between sovereignty and globalisation, asserted the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader, highlighting the controversial UN migration pact, debate over which has continued to split her own party.
Merkel condemned the fact that, in discussions over whether Germany should join a fast-growing number of nations pulling out of the agreement, there were [politicians] who believed that they could decide when these agreements are no longer valid because they are representing The People.
...
Earlier in the day, the Chancellor had previously accused critics of her plans to sign up to the Global Compact for Safe and Orderly Migration, which declares migration inevitable, necessary and desirable, of advocating nationalism in its purest form.

So if those members don't capitulate to Brussels, then the Germans Wermarch & tanks will be arriving within a few days at the border crossings to persuade the dissenters?
Merkel hates “nationalism” but she seems to love German “imperialism” as expressed by Germany’s control of the EU.
They are going to get crushed by a Russian invasion from Putin. I say that we should let him have at them and let him go unimpeded.

If my calculations are correct, this would be the Fourth Reich. And what makes this Reich particularly interesting is that the “Reich capital” is just a token city. The real power base is elsewhere.
If that statement doesn’t stop politicians from selling out to the EU, nothing will.
The problem here is that if you went down to a local German pub with working-class Germans....it’d be awful hard to find anyone who agrees much with Merkel. Course, they’d also tell you they have agreement problems with several of the national parties in Germany. The idea of handing over ‘powers’ to Brussels? I doubt if you could find 20-percent of Germans who’d agree that hooking up with the EU as total ‘boss’ is a wise idea.
These EU guys are the one who drafted up and wrote a regulation on the wattage maximum that you can use for vacuum cleaners. Everyone laughed when that came out...but they didn’t back down.
Germany is conquering Europe without firing a shot. Idiots.
Whether they have moved away from this plan or onto some other equally ambitious and destructive merger remains to be seen. But open borders, caravans of illegals, and the lawlessness of Leftist Dems coupled with their determination to seize power by any means are signs of their submission to upper level globalists.
Merkel, the leader of the fourth Reich, rises. Deal with her now or suffer the consequences.
And the Muslims are conquering Germany without firing a shot (demographics is destiny).
Hmm a bit of “do as I say, but not as I do” from Herr Merkel.
What Merkel and Macron are not saying is their true objective; cede sovereignty to Germany and France....
I've seen this article several times on FR but I've searched far and wide and see NO mention of Merkel's comment about yielding sovereignty elsewhere...not on the BBC, DW, even Fox hasn't a link to the article. Maybe the translation is bad and Merkel didn't say what Breitbart etc said she said...Or maybe the mask accidentally came off?
Germany couldn’t rule over Europe through two world wars so why not try to rule through economic means.
Hey Europe, you’ve been had there ya stoopids.
The Fourth Reich???
Is she trying to help Brexit? I cannot imagine any proud Brit going meekly into a totalitarian collective ruled by Benelux bureaucrats subservient to German banks
I don’t know what Merkel has said but I do know what she has done...
The UK had legitimate issues about the “growing ever closer” nature of the EU. But last Fall Macron tried to start reforms of the EU that would see Germany give up control of their money to the EU and Merkel flat-out killed that.
So the idea “of ever closer” might sound nice to some but where the rubber hits the ground there is definitely a line drawn.
Springtime for Merkel and Germany
