(CNN) — Michael Hayden, a former director of the CIA and National Security Agency, suffered a stroke earlier this week, his family said Friday.
In a statement, the family said Hayden, 73, suffered the stroke at his home and was hospitalized but did not provide details about the stroke's severity.
"He is receiving expert medical care for which the family is grateful," the statement said.
CIA Director Gina Haspel offered wishes on behalf of the agency Friday afternoon for a "speedy recovery."
"Mike's long career of public service & commitment to national security continue to be an inspiration to all intelligence officers. Our thoughts are with Mike, Jeanine, & their family," Haspel said on Twitter. Hayden, a retired four-star Air Force general who is now a CNN national security analyst, served during both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations. He retired as CIA director in 2009.
Since then, he has been a vocal critic of both the Obama and Trump administrations.

It depends what caused the stroke.
I had 3 last winter a month apart, and was why I was off FR for months.
Bottom line, my sky high blood pressure (Over 220) cause the linings in the distribution system above my heart to come loose, plug up and shut off blood to the various parts of my body causing me to collapse and have trouble speaking, no use of my left side and vision loss in one eye..

They have my blood pressure so low it scares me.

i have to largely agree with your comment, except for one minor caveat.
While not scientific, and merely experiential, i have never run across anyone, or ever heard of any case in those who regained consciousness from a stroke of there being long term memory loss.
Again, this observation is not scientific by any means. What other losses Gen. Hayden may suffer from this event is pure speculation, and on that point you and i are in agreement.
i hope that Gen Hayden regains full function for his day of reckoning in a court room.
