Police struggle to recover body of US missionary killed by remote island tribe
FoxNews.com ^ | Nov 22, 2018

John Allen Chau was killed last week by North Sentinel islanders who apparently shot him with arrows and then buried his body on the beach, police say.

But even officials don't travel to North Sentinel, where people live as their ancestors did thousands of years ago, and where outsiders are seen with suspicion and attacked.

"It's a difficult proposition," said Dependera Pathak, director-general of police on India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where North Sentinel is located.

"We have to see what is possible, taking utmost care of the sensitivity of the group and the legal requirements." ..."

Police are consulting anthropologists, tribal welfare experts and scholars to figure out a way to recover the body, he said.

While visits to the island are heavily restricted, Chau paid fishermen last week to take him near North Sentinel, using a kayak to paddle to shore and bringing gifts including a football and fish. ..."

he wrote about his visit and left his notes with the fishermen. He returned to North Sentinel the next day, Nov. 16.

What happened then isn't known, but on the morning of the following day, the fishermen watched from the boat as tribesmen dragged Chau's body along the beach and buried his remains. ..."

Chau was apparently shot and killed by arrows, but the cause of death can't be confirmed until his body is recovered, Pathak said. ..."

"He didn't go there for just adventure. I have no question it was to bring the gospel of Jesus to them," Staver said.

Staver said Chau's last notes to his family on Nov. 16 told them that they might think he was crazy but that he felt it was worth it and asked that they not be angry if he was killed.

Not replying to any one freeper, but seriously some of the hateful things said about this young man are embarrassing. Maybe he felt God call him to do this, maybe you and I are too busy worrying about democrats to truly listen to God and do what He says to be doing. Maybe sometimes cannibals and killers need to hear from brave young people like this guy.

Agreed. Not everyone wants to be told that your way is the right and only way way and that everything they’ve learned from their ancestors is crap.

That’s one opinion.

Another is, they aren’t really interested in his stories.

Christian missionaries are famous for not asking permission.

Yeah, for the past 110 years Europe was the epitome of civilization. Of course there are exceptions, like between 1914 and 1946.

“Christian missionaries are famous for not asking permission.”

I thought Christians were commanded to obey the laws because the State was ordained by God. I’m pretty sure that’s in the Bible.

Right?

Murder according to who’s law? This guy was not invited in to their home. What did he expect to happen?

This was not murder. This was self defense.

The American Indians should have done this to the Spaniards in the 1500s. It would have saved the continent from the scourge of smallpox. Kill a couple hundred Conquistadors, save 10 million lives.

My mom is on a memory unit. Some folks there think they are superheroes. Doesn’t make it true.

We make fun of Muslims who blow themselves up to promote their beliefs. This guy is cut from the same cloth. An idiot Zealot.

Many don’t understand the depth of “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s.”

The 1Cor 12-14 apostle is the gift of being sent. So, there’s an assurance that God has done the sending in the heart of the apostle/sent one.

“So, there’s an assurance that God has done the sending in the heart of the apostle/sent one.”

It’s a pity that heart got shot through with arrows while he was breaking laws and endangering the ones he supposedly wanted to “help”.

For the Record......

I went to North Sentinal Island. It's actually very easy. Go to Google Earth and search for north Sentinal Island and .... voila, you are there.

The view is of solid jungle. On close examination on the southern end of the island but inland a fair piece there are brown spaces in the green. One such spot has what appear to be 4 or 5 regularly spaced rectangles. Others seem to have path ways. There are quite a few and they are spaced at fairly distant intervals. Nothing resembling a village stood out.

On the eastern side there is a continuous break that might be a north south trail.

The island is guarded by a rather wide reef with three or four inlets one of which is a mile from sea to land. The Google Earth resolution presents good views but attempts to go in close break down. Even under very close observation, there seems to be nothing there

This is the only photo
