PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — Thanksgiving is nothing to celebrate for Native Americans, who are gathering in the town where the Pilgrims settled for a solemn National Day of Mourning observance.

Thursday's noon gathering in downtown Plymouth, Massachusetts, will recall the disease, racism and oppression that the European settlers brought.

It's the 49th year that the United American Indians of New England have organized the event on Thanksgiving Day.

Yeah, Thanksgiving was not about Indians.

I can’t wait to see how they blame Christmas and New Years as holidays celebrating genocides.

Idiots.

Pilgrims were one of the only settlements that purchased land from Indian tribes instead of taking it.

My roots are MA and the pilgrims are my ancestord, and I have to say it’s hard to imagine anyone speaking with a Kennedy accent. They may have lived in MA, but they never sounded like any real New Englander that I know.

If 1492 did not work, it would have worked several years down the road. Spears and arrows are no match for canons, large bore muskets, and ships that bring in more people. It was inevitable, it could not be stopped.

North American Indians should give thanks that the French and English primarily colonized this part of the New World. Had the Spanish had full control, it would have been much worse.

Those south of the Rio Grande have never kept up with the rest because of the Spanish/Catholic dominance.

‘I guess they preferred to scalp, torture and cannibalize each other.’

that’s about the size of it...funny how that’s not mentioned very often when this topic comes up...

And some say the Clovis culture arrived in skin boats following the Atlantic ice sheets and then blended with the Asians.

The British were a very nasty, snobbish, and racist. Sadly, all of Europe suffers the blame, when it was in fact, the British.

France was sending people to Canada from the 1500’s but that’s one part of history we rarely hear about. The French traded with the natives, and intermarried with them. They all got along just fine.

Mourning over the mutual tribal genocide and the occasional child sacrifice?

I couldn’t fathom why some countries went one way, via governance, and some went another.

My beloved showed me the path each country took via it’s relation to a particular practice of Faith and how it either encouraged Individualism or encouraged Group Think.

Over all, Individualism was much better. Even with the injustices suffered by different peoples, the countries practicing a Faith which encouraged Individualism fared better.

When they go totally back to nature as a way of life, I’ll believe them...but not as long as one slot remains on one reservation or discount cigarettes are available in their stores....

Diseases ?

You mean the same/similar diseases which had only recently (at time of the ‘invasion’) wiped out 1/3 of all the people in Europe (and other parts of the world), and which had been doing so every couple of generations for more than 1000 years ???

While you are mourning, you also can take a pledge to GIVE UP everything else the Whiteman brought to you (and created since) and to (try to) live as your ancestors did.

THEN You will learn what the phrase ‘Nasty, Brustish and Short’ refers to also about that golden age of indian life. And don’t forget that you can also kill each other in wars/territorial aggression/pressurings as the indians did in time immemorial BEFORE the Whiteman ever came.

Maybe you would rather be thankful for what you HAVE rather than mournful of something you ESCAPED ??

And the British pretty much put them in their place, being Quebec and Louisiana. Had the French been allowed free reign, we’d be similar to those south of the border.

Look at the French Canadians, they are socialists spreading their crap to the rest of their country. Think Justin Trudeau, their version of obama.

Think the current Pope. An obvious socialist that’s no more Catholic than I am.

Yep, they’d be content to be living in the stone age right now and forever. It was just a great life!
