MI6 chiefs are secretly battling Donald Trump to stop him publishing classified information linked to the Russian election meddling investigation.
The UK is warning that the US president would undermine intelligence gathering if he releases pages of an FBI application to wiretap one of his former campaign advisers.
However Trump allies are fighting back, demanding transparency and asking why Britain would oppose the move unless it had something to hide.
It forces the spotlight on whether the UK played a role in the FBI's investigation launched before the 2016 presidential election into Trump campaign ties to the Kremlin.
The Telegraph has talked to more than a dozen UK and US officials, including in American intelligence, who have revealed details about the row.
British spy chiefs have “genuine concern” about sources being exposed if classified parts of the wiretap request were made public, according to figures familiar with discussions.
“It boils down to the exposure of people”, said one US intelligence official, adding: “We don’t want to reveal sources and methods.” US intelligence shares the concerns of the UK.
Another said Britain feared setting a dangerous “precedent” which could make people less likely to share information, knowing that it could one day become public.
The current row is deemed so politically sensitive that staff at the British embassy in Washington DC have been barred from discussing it with journalists.
Theresa May, who already has a testing relationship with Mr Trump, has also been kept at arms-length and is understood to have not raised the issue directly with the US president. Trump's two-year headache
The row is about an FBI request to wiretap Carter Page, a former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, which was made in October 2016 - the month before the US election.

The U.K. has been trying to get control over our elections and government with its efforts to stop our President from being elected and to depose him since he was elected. Sanctions against the U.K. are needed.

I hesitate to believe that part.
In my opinion, The DEMS in 'intelligence' were spying on Trump, but had nothing. They needed something to base their 'investigating' on to make it legal.
They got the MI6 via Steele to provide some highly edited dossiers which MI6 had compiled on other US politicians.
The British don't want TRUMP to release this stuff because it will reveal that It came from MI6 and was not originally about Trump. The people it was about don't want us to know, either.
Either way, it’s a cover-up.

Todd: You ran the inter-agency task force out of the CIA beginning in summer ’16 – included the FBI as concerns were rising about this Russian interference. What can you say about what you believed the evidence that the FBI had to get that FISA warrant and how much of the Steele dossier was a part of it?
Brennan: We, the CIA and the intelligence community had collected a fair amount of information in the summer of 2016 about what the Russians were doing on multiple fronts. And we wanted to make sure that the FBI had full access to that.
Todd: Did the Papadopoulos thing come through the CIA via the Five Eyes thing? That would have been a piece of information that gets to the FBI? Is that how that works?
Brennan: I’m not going to get into details about how it was acquired. But the FBI has very close relationship with its British counterparts. And so the FBI had visibility into a number of things that were going on involving some individuals who may have had some affiliation with the Trump campaign. Brennan appears to be confirming information came from British Intelligence Officials.
I think Clapper is involved too. Deeply.
UK agents cooperated with U.S. agents and law enforcement, breaking laws of both countries, to frame Trump for collusion that never happened, to cover for Hillary losing the and to further cover up her own willful mishandling of classified information(which more countries than Russia have in their possession).
They're terribly sorry about this and would be really embarrassed if their involvement was fully disclosed to the public, and promise it won't happen again.

I actually think the story of the Obama CIA, British intelligence and Australian intelligence plotting to sabotage Trump and his team with orchestrated “Russia” meetings or people is fascinating. At least the media has evidence that can back up these stories. Russia? Not so much.
