President Trump on Thursday continued to respond to a rebuke from Chief Justice John Roberts, saying the Supreme Court justice "can say what he wants" while defending his criticism of the federal judiciary following a ruling against his administration this week.
"Justice Roberts can say what he wants, but the 9th Circuit is a complete & total disaster. It is out of control, has a horrible reputation, is overturned more than any Circuit in the Country, 79%, & is used to get an almost guaranteed result. Judges must not Legislate Security and Safety at the Border, or anywhere else. They know nothing about it and are making our Country unsafe. Our great Law Enforcement professionals MUST BE ALLOWED TO DO THEIR JOB! If not there will be only bedlam, chaos, injury and death. We want the Constitution as written!"
Trump issued the response after sending a pair of other tweets defending his response to Saudi Arabia this week over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and wishing a "HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!"
The president prompted a rebuke from the chief justice this week after he went after a federal judge in California who ruled against his administration's asylum policy. Trump dismissed to the U.S. district court judge who issued the ruling as "an Obama judge" while defending his administration's policy.
"We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges," Roberts responded in a rare statement released by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them."
That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for," the chief justice added in the statement, which came a day before Thanksgiving.
Trump rejected the criticism on Wednesday afternoon.
"Sorry Chief Justice John Roberts, but you do indeed have 'Obama judges,' and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country," he tweeted.
U.S. District Court Judge Jon Tigar on Monday had sided with opponents of the Trump administration policy prohibiting certain immigrants from claiming asylum, granting their request for a temporary restraining order.
Trump blasted the ruling the following day while not referring to the judge by name but calling him "an Obama judge."
Tigar was appointed to the federal bench by the former president in 2012.
Trump went after the judge at the White House while railing against the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears cases appealed by the district court in California.
John Roberts is a turd.
Go after him Trump! We approve! Drive him into the ground until he apologizes. NEVER give up.
Trump will get the last word and he will triple down to get it
And this Khashoggi thing is a red herring! Fake News!
This AM they say he got a lethal injection and Mr Trump was in on it LOL
2 weeks ago Trump lured Kashoggi to Turkey, Rolled him, chopped him up, dissolved him in acid and buried the goo in the Rose garden LOL
John Roberts made a simple, but very large, mistake. He chose to engage in public criticism of a person who can bury him in public comments. And he was wrong to engage to begin with.
I don’t know what Justice Roberts was thinking.
What does Jim Acosta think abut all this?
President Trump is correct. The People also know this truth.
President Trump should announce that he will ignore the 9th circuit TRO in relation to asylum seekers, publicly citing his presidential constitutional duty under Article IV clause 2 of the Constitution to protect the states from invasion.
The present caravan is an invasion, a demographic invasion and the president has the intelligence reports and facts to prove that.
Roberts needs to stay out of politics and hang his hat back on the wall of SCOTUS and keep it there, unless he intends to resign his office and run for election.
I think Roberts should resign.
RESIGN ROBERTS. GTFO!
John Roberts went off the map after he screwed the country with Obamacare.
Now he shows up again? Really John?
Roberts had no business opening his mouth.
If he gets into a back-and-forth with our President, should HE have to recuse himself from any future rulings involving Trump, since he’s obviously biased against him?
That POS should have been impeached just for that Obamacare nonsense he invented out of thin air.
AMEN!
‘Justice’ from biased judge John Roberts? Ha! What a laugh. American Disgrace and Progressive Flag-Bearer, Roberts is a Fraud-Murderer Children and Violator of American Law, and as a National Disgrace should Retire Immediately.
One doesn’t want to go after the USSC CJ and miss.
Let’s hope Trump has the goods and the follow-through on what’s occurring here.
That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for,
That’s more suited to Comedy Central!
It is appearing to me like every decision he’s involved in will have him making a mistake. Closet liberal
Trump needs to find out whatever it is obama is holding over Roberts and let him know he has it too.
Mr President, you are absolutely correct in your assessment of the current state of the Federal judiciary. It is evident in the 79% of cases out of the 9th Circus being overturned on appeal. It is evident in the rulings coming even from SCOTUS.
The Federal judiciary has so far overstepped its bounds that it will require MAJOR overhaul to bring it back within the confines of the Constitution.
Convention of States is, perhaps, the last recourse left us, save another Civil War, to drain the swamp. It is a long and arduous process. But, it’s prescribed in the Constitution we cherish.
The alternative is terrible to consider. But, consider it we must, also.
The turd has no dignity and thinks that black cape makes him invincible.
Who lit a fuse under Roberts and Cindy McCain? They both need to shut up.
