In a recent interview, Michelle Obama helped illuminate an element of black American life rarely discussed in the absence of massive tragedy and more often dismissed or downplayed: the constant threat of violence based on hatred.
Speaking with Oprah Winfrey, Obama said she cannot and will not ever forgive President Donald Trump for stoking a racist conspiracy theory about her husbands birthplace, because it could easily have inspired the wrong person to take violent action. She and her family have had to live with the risk and manage the toll.
What Obama described is at once a distinct experience - that of the only black First Family - and a common part of black American life. Violence, property crimes, threats and other offenses inspired by racial animus amounted to the most frequent type of hate crime reported in the FBIs most recent tally of bias crimes. In fact, black Americans have been the most frequent victims of hate crime in every tally of bias incidents generated since the FBI began collecting such data in the early 1990s.
In 2015, when the nations current surge in hate crime began, Donald Trump announced his run for president. He did so with a speech which, among other things described Mexican immigrants as rapists.
One day later, Dylann Roof, a white nationalist, attended a prayer meeting at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina.
It has been the case historically, and certainly since we started to get valid statistical information on hate crimes, that African Americans have been the group most frequently targeted, said Jack McDevitt, director of the Institute of Race and Justice at Northeastern University.
Our countrys basic problem with diversity started with slavery and, well, Native American slaughter, McDevitt said.

IF true, it is only because society refuses to countenance that Blacks can even commit a hate crime. I am sure that if all black on white crime was labeled a hate crim the numbers would be staggering
Well if you don’t call black on white crime hate crime, then yeah, you can create any statistic you want.
Mme. Bobblehead started it
Trump repeated it
Theyre both correct
What was trotted out was Fake as the day is long
And also the most often group to do fake hate crimes on themselves, and also the group doing the most hate crimes to each other.
How many non-blacks do blacks murder each year? How many blacks are murdered by non-blacks each year?
This "hate crime" BS is just a shell game meant to inflame.
Who determines whether the black is truly a victim of such a crime?
Fake News.
Not that we expect the enemedia to report anything else.
If blacks are the victims of so many hate crimes, then it figures that blacks can and do commit racial hate crimes.
Against themselves.
Why even address nonsense? It adds some kind of legitimacy to it.
If they prefer to sulk at the bottom, being told poor ####ing you by liberals, then that’s their call.
We can’t make up their minds for them.
Only they can.
They DONT GET IT. We’ll be just fine.
They’ll be at the bottom forever this way.
If you declare that blacks cannot commit hate crimes, it’s intellectually dishonest to point to a dearth of the label “hate” on such crimes by black people.
Look what they have done to Colin Flaherty, author of “Don’t Make The Black Kids Angry”.
He has committed the mortal sin of telling things as they are, documenting them, and providing video evidence.
They won’t utter his name in the media, and any site like YouTube or Facebook shuts him down almost as soon as he gets it restarted again.
Her and her moronic husband have done more to spread hate in this country than any other group has...except for the Southern Poverty Hate Center.
They certainly are the ones busted most often for faking hate crimes.........
Major Findings
The evidence suggests that if there is police racial bias in arrests it is negligible. Victim and witness surveys show that police arrest violent criminals in close proportion to the rates at which criminals of different races commit violent crimes.
There are dramatic race differences in crime rates. Asians have the lowest rates, followed by whites, and then Hispanics. Blacks have notably high crime rates. This pattern holds true for virtually all crime categories and for virtually all age groups.
In 2013, a black was six times more likely than a non-black to commit murder, and 12 times more likely to murder someone of another race than to be murdered by someone of another race.
In 2013, of the approximately 660,000 crimes of interracial violence that involved blacks and whites, blacks were the perpetrators 85 percent of the time. This meant a black person was 27 times more likely to attack a white person than vice versa. A Hispanic was eight times more likely to attack a white person than vice versa.
In 2014 in New York City, a black was 31 times more likely than a white to be arrested for murder, and a Hispanic was 12.4 times more likely. For the crime of shootingdefined as firing a bullet that hits someonea black was 98.4 times more likely than a white to be arrested, and a Hispanic was 23.6 times more likely.
If New York City were all white, the murder rate would drop by 91 percent, the robbery rate by 81 percent, and the shootings rate by 97 percent.
In an all-white Chicago, murder would decline 90 percent, rape by 81 percent, and robbery by 90 percent.
In 2015, a black person was 2.45 times more likely than a white person to be shot and killed by the police. A Hispanic person was 1.21 times more likely. These figures are well within what would be expected given race differences in crime rates and likelihood to resist arrest.
In 2015, police killings of blacks accounted for approximately 4 percent of homicides of blacks. Police killings of unarmed blacks accounted for approximately 0.6 percent of homicides of blacks. The overwhelming majority of black homicide victims (93 percent from 1980 to 2008) were killed by blacks.
Both violent and non-violent crime has been declining in the United States since a high in 1993. 2015 saw a disturbing rise in murder in major American cities that some observers associated with depolicing in response to intense media and public scrutiny of police activity.
Janell, when your head is up your a**, everything is black.
