The problem is that there is less 'stuff'; to spread around to those who want 'stuff'; than is needed.

Therefore the wanters are not happy with the meager amount of 'stuff' that they DO have.

Thus discontentment sets in; with all of it's non-happy components; which then makes our rulers be mean to us.
