Chuck Todd rips 'absurd' White House rules: No serious journalist will follow these

NBC host Chuck Todd on Tuesday criticized the White House's new rules for reporters at presidential news conferences, calling them "absurd" and predicting that journalists won't follow them.

"These aren’t exactly pro first amendment rules. I assume there isn’t a single serious journalist in the WH press corps who would abide by these absurd 'rules.' Manners is one thing, but regulating follow ups is a form of censorship," he wrote in a tweet.

The White House announced the new rules on Monday after restoring the press credential of CNN reporter Jim Acosta. It had been revoked last week after he refused to give up the microphone earlier this month while attempting to ask Trump a question about the Russia investigation.

The new rules include limiting journalists to asking one question and allowing follow-up questions only at the discretion of Trump or other White House officials answering questions.

In response, the president of the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) said in a statement Monday that the WHCA expects reporters to continue asking follow-up questions.

"The White House Correspondents' Association had no role in crafting any procedures for future press conferences. For as long as there have been White House press conferences, White House reporters have asked follow-up questions," WCHA President Olivier Knox said. "We fully expect this tradition will continue."

In hide sight. Maybe the staffer should have filed assault charges against Acosta and requested a restraining order until the issue was adjudicated. That would have lit his butt up.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Note carefully the first word.

Amendment I applies to Congress, not the President’s domain.

Should be no problem as I haven’t see a serious journalist at one of these pressers in years.

Well Chuck, you would know because you’re certainly not a ‘serious journalist’ yourself.

Maybe they should just end the daily press briefings. As for Presidential press conferences, instead of Trump taking 68 questions for over an hour, limit it them to 20 minutes. Let’s see how the WHPC likes that.

Just end the whole stupid WH Press Briefing thing!

Allow journalists (anyone!) to send in questions through the WH web site. Rank order them by relevancy to topical issues, assign a number to them and then choose the top 100. Have a DVD and/or paper copy plus summary available to all in the WH press room. Also make it downloadable by all from the WH web site. The MSM can go all angrily orgasmic on the answers on their on time on their own networks! Trump could also do “FDR-like” fireside chats and post them on YouTube or buy time from the networks to play them (even live if he wants!). Also make them downloadable from the web sites. Again the media can watch them discuss them, pick them apart apply their vast arsenal of forensics linguistic skills to ascertain their meaning but again on their own time on their own networks, magazines or newspapers!

All of this has the happy effect of further breaking the MSM monopoly on political discussion. Demonstrates what we all know that they are not more special or knowledgeable then the rest of us!

Chuck Todd is no longer an NBC WH correspondent but he seems to be speaking for them and I have no doubt they’ll be following the new Acosta rules or they’ll be gone.

Attendance at presidential news conferences is a courtesy extended by the President.

Answering a reporter’s question at a presidential news conference is a courtesy extended by the President.

Being in a reporter’s house is a courtesy extended by the reporter (or the reporter’s significant other).

Why do leftists have problems with equality?

...I don’t know what he means by a serious journalist. I have never heard of one...

Chris Plante says this means Typists for the Democrat party whose job is to type and read press releases composed for the Democrat party while posing as Reporters.

Before they get done, some judge will decide when Trump goes to bed and when he gets up.

“new rules include limiting journalists to asking one question and allowing follow-up questions only at the discretion of Trump or other White House officials answering questions.”

They think they have a right to DEBATE Trump. Legitimate follow up is fine. Engaging in policy debate is not. There IS a difference.
