One of the most thoughtful articles on the possibility of a second civil war. The author's sadness rings throughout the piece, it is almost a eulogy.

the technology exists today to drill down on the money and interests funding both sides of the “debate” ultimately to their own ends.

That money and those interests ALWAYS exist -in all of human history

The war drums will boom the more loudly on each side of the Red and Blue the closer We the People draw near to unhorsing
that money and those interests.

A modern day civil war either needs to be won quickly with armaments or lost slowly with bureaucrats.

I actually had some liberal on the opinion website of the local rag claiming there was no right to self defense with a firearm because is was not specifically stated in the 2nd Amend. His claim was the 2A was all about supporting the state. When I asked if hunting with a firearm was allowed as it was also not spelled out, he accused me of “attacking the messenger”

The article is a dark & pessimistic reframing of US history, using a lot of big words, predicting a third but this time "bloodless" civil war.
I've called it a Civil Cold War.

Regarding our many past discussions, the following caught my eye, from the article:

This is the first I've seen of any purported "85 slave ships" in 1859.

This is where Michael runs off the rails. Both sides? Really. I think Trump has listened to and abided by unconstitutional judicial meddling on a host of things, Trump is preventing( wrongly so IMO) a Constitutional crises by kowtowing to these terrorist in black robes and we are suffering for it.

"Both sides rush to tear down the constitutional order. Just since the 2016 election, we have witnessed a rolling thunder of Blue and Red elite rhetoric—packing the Supreme Court, abolishing the Electoral College, repealing the Second Amendment, wholesale state nullification of federal law, shackling of voter rights, and Deep State invocation of the 25th Amendment. These are all potential extremities of action that would not only dismantle our constitutional order, but also skew it to one side’s juridical construct of virtue, thus dissolving any semblance of adherence to law by the other. Over time each party becomes emotionally invested in the lust to dismantle the old and make something new."
