SEOUL, South Korea North Korea has tested a new tactical weapon, the Norths official news media said on Friday, reporting that Kim Jong-un witnessed the event in his first publicized visit to a weapons test site since the country test-launched its intercontinental ballistic missile last November.
State media did not identify the weapon, and the test did not appear to violate the voluntary moratorium North Korea imposed on nuclear and long-range ballistic missile tests this year. Still, Mr. Kims renewed activities at weapons test sites could complicate the already stalled talks between North Korea and the United States over how to remove the Norths nuclear weapons.
North Korea tends to use the prospects of rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula as leverage when negotiations with Washington do not go in its favor. In recent weeks, it has issued vague threats that it might resume testing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles should the United States continue to refuse to make concessions like easing sanctions.
On Friday, the Norths official Korean Central News Agency said Mr. Kim visited the testing ground of the Academy of Defense Science, the center of weapons development in North Korea, and supervised a newly developed ultramodern tactical weapon test"

Fake news is just trying to stir up shit. Norks only said they were going to stop testing nukes. Not everything else. ANd while we may not like it I don’t think anyone would be too upset if they tested conventional weapons.

I agree with that sentiment. If its conventional then off the table. And maybe they are just blowing smoke to see the reaction over here.

“Probably a rail gun.”
As in Kim strapped to the front of a Nork locomotive, holding a pistol?

A new “tactical” weapon could be almost anything. Basically “strategic” weapons are ICBMs, WMDs, and the like. “Tactical” gets to cover everything else from a boot knife to a short range ballistic missile with conventional HE warhead.

What did we warn about Kim Jong Un and his true intents and his smoking backstabbing I nsncerity instead of all the bull**** over him being a nice guy and trustworthy and somehow a friend of Americas (and the Presidents). US Intel and just about everybody here in Japan and northeast Asia knew this was coming. And some good Freepers on FR, too, with years of experience of following this regime and reporting back here, but otherwise driven off of FR or made to feel unwelcome for refusing to fall for the overly optimistic pipe dream hype and Kims lies Time to start the military training maneuvers in ROK the CinC suspended, ASAP. Our troops are at risk the more we follow this stupid rainbow.

Kim Jong Un will eventually have to be taken out one way or another. He is insane with his own power and should never ever be trusted... he’s a friggen commie for cripes sake. That said, everyone joking like he’s not a serious threat needs to remember that one mayonaise jar of designer germs can ruin everyone’s day real quick. You don’t have to be high tech to do really bad things, and Kim would do it if he could precisely because he’s a mad-man with a track record to prove it.

Update. VP Pence informed the Japanese here in Tokyo just a few days ago during his visits that precisely US-ROK training practice is set to resume. Good for him. Enough of this silliness and unpreparedness.
