VA Union Files Lawsuit Against Administration for Attempting to Silence Workers

AFGE calls recent actions by the VA ‘the latest overreach in their quest to bust unions’ and remove rights at work

WASHINGTON – The country’s largest federal employee union filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking to block recent union-busting actions by the administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents more than 250,000 workers at the VA, filed the lawsuit along with the National Federation of Federal Employees and the National Association of Government Employees in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia late Wednesday, hours before the orders were to be implemented at the VA.

“This year the president has launched several attacks against working people, with a heavy emphasis on targeting the women and men who have dedicated their lives to caring for our nation’s veterans,” said AFGE National President J. David Cox Sr., a VA nurse for more than 20 years. “From his now-illegal Executive Orders in May, to the recent decision by the VA to remove Title 38 workers from official time – President Trump has made it clear he doesn’t want doctors, nurses, dentists, and many others to have a voice in the workplace. And he’ll go to extreme lengths to silence them and bust their union.”

What Reagan did to the air controllers union in the 80’s needs to happen to this one as well. Veterans as a whole I feel are not very well represented and treated by having the unionized VA employees acting like prancing prima donnas who act like that they can’t be disciplined or fired for malfeasance or dereliction and do not hold themselves accountable to those they were hired to serve, IMHO.

He’s not silencing anybody.

They can still scream and lie without the taxpayers paying them to do it

Public sector unions present a de facto conflict of interest, and anti-Constitution, radical leftist, medical/insurance racket “professionals” who can get huge pay and benefits in the private sector don’t need unions.

60 Minutes filmed a hidden camera at a VA I use to work at of the nurses bringing in food to a quadriplegic patient. They would come back later and take the tray away. Finally the other patients had to feed the guy.

When I was there they lost a cornea that was to be transplanted that week. The patient, a VA volunteer, had to find his own cornea!

Bust that union!!

Unions were necessary back in the early 20th Century; my grandfather was a union organizer in the days when it was dangerous to be one. They union movement won in the 1930s; by the 1950s they had raised the Working Class into the Middle Income Quintile, but in doing so, had become hopelessly corrupt. Oh the stories my father told about the crooked unions in Dupont plants in New Jersey! By the 1970s, they had priced the American Worker out of international labor market, even out of the domestic unskilled labor market (resulting in massive economic immigration).

That said, there was never any justification for PUBLIC unions. Public employees do not require unionization or union representation, as voters, they have all the voice they need in determining government policy, including government employment and labor policies. The public sector unions were formed to benefit the union organizers and officials, not the employees.

For what it is worth, my Grandfather, the labor union organizer, my father (FBI, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Bureau of Standards, Atomic Energy Commission/Nuclear Regulatory Agency) and mother (public school teacher in D.C. and Maryland) my brother and I spent the majority of our working lives as public sector employees.

The VA nurses and MD’s are mostly inferior and work under 25 hours a week. Occasionally you get a very good MD. Most of the nurses suck.
