A New Jersey couple has been hit with criminal charges stemming from a GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $400,000 for homeless veteran Johnny Bobbitt, who was also arrested in connection with the money-raising effort that now appears to be an elaborate scam, authorities said.
Kate McClure and her boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, were charged with conspiracy and theft by deception, court records obtained by ABC News on Thursday show.
Bobbitt was arrested Wednesday night by the Philadelphia Police Department on charges of being a fugitive from justice, according to Philadelphia police. He has been transferred to Burlington County, New Jersey, to face charges related to the GoFundMe case.

I had a friend whose family members set up a gofundme account to pay for my friend’s funeral for her murdered daughter. The need was legitimate but I donated directly to my friend and bypassed gofundme. I will never donate to that site.
So this story restores my faith in humanity. -Tom
Is there a law against begging? Let me get this right. Its ok for Dr Ford to collect millions for her suffering but its illegal for some smart bum to do it.
It was all a big lie, fraud; they agreed beforehand to perpetrate this fraud. The woman admitted it to a friend in an email.
They should all be locked up and throw away the key.
now this ticks me off. The good news is, GFM is refunding everyone’s money and taking the hit.
The bad news is, we’re probably not going to be able to throw Bobbitt into Leavenworth for the rest of his ‘how dare you shame the military’ miserable, rotten, low-life scummy snake-bellied life.
This is nothing. I believe Go Fund Me is a slush fund and ripe with blatant fraud in the tune of millions.
