Angela Merkel is on her way out as Chancellor of Germany, whether it be at the end of her term (shes not running again) or through being forced out sooner. But that doesnt mean that shes going quietly into that good night. Following some rather acerbic remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron about the European Union needing to be able to stand up to the United States, Merkel chimed in this week with a wonderful plan of her own, no matter how offensive it may sound.
She suggested that the EU needs their own standing army so they can be well defended against possible aggression. She was supporting Macrons recent comments where he said Europe needed protection from, China, Russia and even the United States of America.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday backed French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in his call for a European army a move that President Trump has called insulting as he urged the countries to fulfill their NATO commitments instead.
Merkel told lawmakers in the E.U. Parliament in Strasbourg that we have to work on the vision of one day creating a real European army. She clarified the such a force would not mean the end of NATO, and also called for the creation of a European security council.
The remarks were met with a mix of boos and cheers from lawmakers, with some British representatives crying Rubbish! Rubbish!
On the surface, its certainly insulting to the United States. The idea that the country whose military has done more to keep Europe free over the last century than anyone else (except possibly Russia, ironically, during WW2) is someone they need to be ready to fight would be hilarious if it werent so sad.

The EU will NEVER gets all its poop in one sock, and Eastern Europe thinks highly of the US, making socialist Western Europe practically disarmed.
A European Army would be worthless without the US nuclear umbrella. Conventional forces are only worth something in an environment where neither side dares to use nukes.
It depends on what Rules of Engagement you're willing to use. If you need to physically arrest border crossers, then a judge orders their release, then you don't have enough men to hold it.
If you are allowed to use deadly force on illegal crossers, then after the first few skeletons mark the crossing points, crossing will decline drastically.
We protected them (all on our dime) for almost a half century against the Warsaw Pact, and our troops stationed there helped their economy tremendously over that same time period and beyond. And THIS is the thanks we get?
We should pull out all our troops from that dysfunctional nation NOW. And then watch from afar as Islam completes what we should’ve let the Russians do in ‘45 — destroy Germany completely.
She's Germany's answer to the UK's Chamberlain, or perhaps more accurately, she works for Putin.
Merkel might as well start buying plastic army men from Amazon. Germany currently spends 1.2% of its GDP on defense and plans to zoom that all the way up to a stellar 1.5% by 2025. At that rate of increase they’ll surpass the 2% threshold they’ve already committed to (and reneged on) right around the centenary of their last march on Moscow.
Merkel, typically said the bare minimum "ok to the EU army"
