A conversation about how much you drink might be part of your next doctors visit.
The United States Preventative Services Task Force is advising that all adults, not just pregnant women, be screened for unhealthy alcohol use by their primary care providers, CNN reports.
Doctors should provide brief counseling to patients they find are drinking above the recommended limits, according to a new statement published in the medical journal JAMA on Tuesday (Nov. 13).
In an editorial accompanying the statement, Angela Bazzi and Dr. Richard Saitz of the Boston University School of Public Health wrote that implementation of screening and brief intervention remains quite low among doctors only 1 in 6 patients in the United States report having discussed alcohol with their physician.

Good for you. Last time I was even tipsy was in, I think, 1995. Not really sure but we were in London visiting an old buddy and had a little wine. Smoking ceased on 4/4/2017 for Mrs rktman’s birthday present. Cold turkey and I believe I handled it ok. Do I still want one? Yeah but I know I’d be puking my guts out.
So, you’ve been cutting down on your drinking this season, it sounds like. Good for you.
You need to catch up to the rest of us. LOL!
If Bloomberg runs and wins that will happen. I unfortunately lived in New York city when he was despot, I mean Mayor, and every Monday he would issue a decree what you can and cannot do or own. Just before he left office he wanted a list from landlords of all the tenants they have who smoke. I assume the next step was to punish them.
I'd rephrase that to "Do you support disarming the American public?"
Just lie.
My children know to lie if asked about guns at school, by a doctor, or where ever.
They know to lie about alcohol, too (although we don’t really drink very often or much).
They know to lie about religion and politics.
Don’t say “I refuse to answer”. That puts you on a list.
Just lie.
Essentially they already do — When they check your blood pressure. Elevated blood pressure is a dead give away to excessive alcohol consumption.
How do you think they find out if Airline Pilots and Military Aviators are having drinking problems — Annual physical. If the BP is up there other tests that provide the rest of the story (i.e. liver enzymes).
That question has been on every doctor form I ever filled out. It’s not new. It’s none of their business unless you are preparing for surgery.
If it were only for my doctor then that would be ok - as it could have an impact on my health - which I’m paying him to help me with.
But it’s not...It’s also for the insurance companies, the electronic medical database, the govt., etc
I tell’em I have a drink now and then and that’s it. Then I ask - is something showing up in the tests or exam that’s a concern? That usually shut’s them up. What really irritates me is when one of the assistants, nurses, admins asks me and not the doctor.
Here are the smart answers one gives to his doctor or staff.
Do you drink Alcohol?— No. I tried it in my youth but didn’t like it and haven’t drinken since.
Do you smoke tobacco ? — No. I tried it in my youth but didn’t like it and haven’t used it since.
Have you used marijuana or another controlled substance — No? Not even once.
Do you own or possess a firearm? — No. if you think you may be on record of owning tell them no. You felt they were unsafe so you destroyed the ones you had.
Yeah, I pushed back a good cold one this last week.
If your doctor asks you about your drinking, you ask him the same question!
The sanitation team makes sure you washed your hands and did you wash behind your ears?
At dinner time they invade your kitchen or eavesdrop on your order at the restaurant ("Are you eating enough veggies?")
All for my own good, of course...
Don’t you mean “mare”? No offense to horses intended.
“.....Im starting to really hate Leftists.”
Starting? I’ve hated them for decades.
LOL. If you don’t drink, cool. but if you do, I don’t see an issue disclosing it to your physician. I mean if you’re not there for your health, then what the hell are you there for?
Yes, I was surprised to see that.
Who knew a 6-pack could last a whole season?
Have you seen my doc? LOL! Just sayin’....
FULL DISCLOSURE: We were historically NY Giants fans, try to ignore NFL stuff more now after their antics the past few seasons.
Every new doctor I’ve been to has given me paperwork to fill out with these types of questions. I go through all the questions and on anything personal I just put an NA, not applicable.
Don’t think I’ve ever had a doctor actually ask me any of these kind of questions. But if they did I’d just say...what’s that got to do with why I’m here?
