Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday said that he would support a bill to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.
I would certainly vote for it, he told reporters, according to Reuters.
I dont see any movement to get rid of Mueller. But it probably would be good to have this legislation in place just for the future.
Graham co-sponsored a bill to protect the Mueller investigation in April 2018 that would codify Department of Justice regulations that say only a senior official can fire Mueller or another special counsel.
The special counsel is examining ties between President Trump's campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.
Democrats and some Republicans have raised concerns that the ouster of Attorney General Jeff Sessions threatens the investigation.
Trump replaced him with Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general, who has criticized the probe in the past.
Democratic leaders, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), have called for Whitaker to recuse himself from the investigation.
"Given his record of threats to undermine & weaken the Russia investigation, Matthew Whitaker should recuse himself from any involvement in Muellers investigation," she tweeted. "Congress must take immediate action to protect the rule of law and integrity of the investigation."
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Friday that legislation protecting Mueller was not needed because he doesn't believe President Trump will fire the special counsel.
Mueller is safe.
Trump is happy to let him chase squirrels.
Protect him from what?
The premise is absurd.
Unconstitutional. Grants executive power to some “senior DOJ official” that places him in a position to over-rule the president.
Under what authority can the United State Senate and the House of Reps put an unelected man above the president?
I can’t find this anywhere in the US constitution
The idea of senators voting for this (and the house) just seems unlawful
Do they know that they still need the president’s signature on this?
Totally unconstitutional.
Linda is back from her vacation.
Yes, by all means, install Mueller as a fourth branch of government who is beyond any supervision whatsoever.
How about a bill to protect taxpayers ...or a bill to protect Americans from illegal invaders?
So the old Graham is back? Things must be getting serious in DC if Graham is jumping ship again. Wait until Trump prevents these illegal aliens from just coming into the country. The media and dems are going to go full blown bat shit crazy, coupled with the election chaos we are in for some ride that will lead to Trumps impeachment and removal. Then all bets are off.
Never Forget....Linda is $oros funded.
Even if they over-rode a presidential veto. This is unconstitutional on it’s very face. It’s some DOJ appointee, subordinate to the President, empowered to create and execute policy against the President’s direct orders.
The constitution has a clear remedy for a corrupt president. They can impeach him. They may not strip some presidential powers and give them to a subordinate who can over-ride the president.
can they muster 2/3rds in both houses to override the veto.

I don't think anyone is following orders in D.C.
Graham protecting his late buddy, McCain.
the entire premise of this bill is merely to prevent the real investigation...of Clinton/DNC/FusionGPS/Steele/intel agencies etc etc.
it’s a disgrace.
Well, THAT didn’t take long!
That’s Linda...
