You can expect a "drinking checkup" when you visit the doctor. All adults, including pregnant women, should be screened for unhealthy alcohol use by their primary care physicians, the United States Preventive Services Task Force advises. For those patients who drink above the recommended limits, doctors should provide brief counseling to help them reduce their drinking, according to the new task force statement published Tuesday in the medical journal JAMA.
As far as teens, the independent panel of medical experts came up empty. The task force said it did not find enough evidence to make a recommendation for or against alcohol screening and counseling for those under the age of 18. The panel is calling for more research.
Unhealthy alcohol use means drinking beyond the recommended limits. No more than four drinks in a single day and 14 drinks in a week is the line drawn for men age 21 to 64, according to National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. For women and older men, the institute advises no more than three drinks in one day and no more than seven drinks in a week. There is no safe level of alcohol for pregnant women, according to the institute.

Horse and Cow is a Submarine bar.

How much alcohol do you have in your house?
Do you own a gun?
Are you a veteran?
“Did you vote for Trump?”
This way, please...
Yeah, I forgot that one.
Go directly to the gulag...
My weapons drowned in the alcohol.
These are not real "puritans". The original Puritans who came to Massachusetts drank plenty, and enjoyed it. There was no church prohibition on their drinking. It was a part of their life and accepted in their society.
These are "control" freak Marxists, pure and simple. They want to run every aspect of your life in the 21st century.
If the purpose is to charge higher risk people with higher health coverage premiums, then I am all for it, as long as all risks get the same treatment: A black man in South Chicago should pay a lot more than a black male in Scarsdale; male homos should pay more than male heteros; smokers should pay more than non-smokers; fat people should pay more than HWP people; people who don’t own forearms should pay more than those who do; and people who abuse alcohol or other drugs should pay more than people who don’t.
Happened to me 2 weeks ago when I had a physical with my Doc. After she asked me how much I drank, I asked her if she was going to ask me how many guns I owned. She smirked at me. I then followed up with the question what was next.... Sex ? Sheesh.. There is no more fun left in the world from the viewpoint of a medical professional.
so instead of spending the 5 minutes you’ll get with your doc trying to get your suspected fatal cancer diagnosed, they’ll piss it away yammering about alcohol and gun ownership ...
“Having worked in a big city ER for years I can guarantee that alcohol is a huge, huge,*huge* problem in this country.I wasn’t there long before I decided to 1) stop drinking *completely* and 2) to *always* buckle my seat belt (this was before it was the law in my state).”
-Been there, done that. My “moderate” - I thought - drinking ended me up in the ER a couple of times. I foolishly kept drinking “moderately” after being prescribed a certain medicine for high blood pressure (prb. caused by the alcohol), which one night caused horrific hallucinations of fearsome beings. Never had anything like that before (65 years old). Ever be laying in bed at night and feel someone - something - sit down on the other side of the bed? I won’t say what I saw, but it was just about the last straw. Then my daughter told me she picked me up running along the road, saying I “had to find mom.” I admitted to her I had been drinking. I have absolutely no recollection of that incident, and thought I only drank in the evening to help me get to sleep. Scared me straight. I quit cold turkey. To those of you who can enjoy a glass of wine with a meal or a cold beer on a hot day - more power to you. That was me for several years before it gradually escalated. Once again, its not for me to judge anyone else, and have no problem with moderate drinking so long as you can keep it strictly under control. I thought I was, but was only fooling myself.
Some of us on FR have been in public safety first response and have lasted more than a few decades...and are desperately trying to drown the brain cells storing memories unexpectedly surfacing as flashbacks of unspeakable horrors.
Which is why "talk therapy" is a non-sequitor.
“-——— people who dont own forearms should pay more than those who do”

I certainly agree with that——it’s tough getting along without forearms. :-)
.
LIE.
Not a good idea. I’ll bet there’s fine print somewhere that says you can be penalized for misrepresentation. Maybe even legal consequences.
Just refuse to answer. Also avoid HMOs and Medicare Advantage plans, where they have more control over you.
Ha! Thumbs up!
