The nation is deeply divided, with each side seeing the other as the enemy.
I began my journalism career covering a civil war in Lebanon. I never thought Id end my career covering a civil war in America.
We may not be there yet, but if we dont turn around now, we will surely get where were going which was best described by Senator Jeff Flake on Monday: Tribalism is ruining us. It is tearing our country apart. It is no way for sane adults to act.
Sure, weve experienced bouts of intense social strife since the American Civil War of 1861. I grew up with the assassination of Martin Luther King and raging street battles over civil rights and Vietnam. And yet this moment feels worse much less violent, blessedly, but much more broadly divisive. There is a deep breakdown happening between us, between us and our institutions and between us and our president.
We cant find common ground on which to respectfully disagree; the other side is the enemy. We shout at each other on television, unfollow each other on Facebook and fire verbal mortars at each other on Twitter and now everyone is on the digital battlefield, not just politicians.

Agreed.
“Tribalism is ruining us”
Only if you call Marxism, communism, fascism, leftism, progressivism, totalitarianism, and despotism a “tribe.”
The schism I saw between those who want to live free and with the blessings of Liberty vs those who wouldn’t enslave us.
Flake is an idiot if he cannot see that.
Let me condense that: “Flake is an idiot.”
And most clowns won’t even know who that is without having to look it up.
I would’ve agreed a couple of years ago. I think going into 2019, basically the Republican Party represents patriotic Americans and the Democratic Party represents people with other fundamental allegiances. The age of Jim Webb Democrats and Jeff Flake Republicans is passing into the rear-view mirror.
The book by Mercy Otis Warren mentions how, at the time of the Revolution's start, the war was pretty much a foregone conclusion in the minds of the patriots.
The same thing is forming in our minds now.
A rag-tag militia taking on the most powerful military in the world. Sound familiar?
I bet the trigger will indeed be attempted confiscation of guns and other armaments. As it was in 1775.
The Rats can do nothing without disarming us, and they know it.
We need to start writing the second Declaration, once enough of a plan is underway. We could just get the old one and use some liquid paper and a ball-point pen to bring it up to date. Preserving as much as possible and replacing the FF's reasons for our own, which will be remarkably similar, I would wager.
The new Declaration will be met with derision by the other side as was the first.
What we have that the FFs didn't was a knowledge that freedom indeed leads to greatness.
They believed it fervently; we know it as a fact, having seen them do it.
LOL, well said!
This article insists upon itself. It’s an example of its theme.
One side puts Party above Country.
The other puts Country above Party.
THAT’S the problem.
Proof? Easy. Watch their heads explode when we say, “America First.” They will never, ever, do that.
There will not be a civil war. There will be a takeover of our government and destruction of the constitution and our liberties. A few may fight but the vast majority will lay down and beg. I doubt if 1/10 of 1% will put up any real fight. Freedom is just too expensive in terms of our comfortable lives. We always fall for the hope the next election will make things better. Hell, we can’t even make the effort to put up some good protests to support the President who thusfar ha s been taking on the enemies pretty much single handedly.
Sadly I think your right.
In a nutshell, he wrote an average MSM analysis.
We appreciate the great job you are doing.....thank you.
Done. Added to CWII ping list.
You’ve been added.
You can add "vote-tampering" to that list.
!
Keep me on your list, please.
Keep me on your list, please.

Like in 1860, the cold civil war will become hot when state governments start to secede.
