Queens residents are outraged at Amazons plans to build part of its second headquarters in Long Island City, according to Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The Democratic Socialist, who cruised to victory in the midterm elections after beating Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens) in an upset primary win in June, fired off a series of tweets Monday night into Tuesday regarding the blockbuster plans.
Weve been getting calls and outreach from Queens residents all day about this. The communitys response? Outrage, Ocasio-Cortez, who officially takes office in January, tweeted.
The 29-year-old went on to say: Amazon is a billion-dollar company. The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here.

Hey “OC”. Just pay for it. How hard is that? You need more lessons from uncle burnee or what.
No mention of 10,000 jobs, each paying between 100k and 200k.
That’s a LOT of revenue over 20 years.
And I gar an damn tee she hasn’t heard a single negative comment from ANY resident of Queens.
We need a ton more of this young womans smart ideas. She should be sure to not let that meanie Nancy Pelosi try to silence her.
No doubt.
Three dozen Amazon gift cards will suddenly show up in her mailbox. She’ll tell Bezos to step it up...they’re going to share more real estate than Queens...she’s going to DC too, home of the WaPoo Bezos Blog.
I am thinking she will be a continual source of amusement.
She’s such a ditz.
Does anyone know who is and what was he job in the White House (if he was working in the WH)?
Mario Cuomo paid $700 million to build a solar-panel factory for Tesla in Buffalo NY, because they “promised” to hire 3000 people, or some number like that.
Of course, years later, its nowhere close to 3000 jobs, Tesla’s debt is close to junk, but no one on either side wants to talk about this money.
I guess shed rather no Amazon at all than a deal with Amazon. A glass half full is no good, maam?
...
Reading this thread I can see that some FReepers agree with her.
I hate to admit it, but she actually has a point about a trillion dollar corporation taking tax breaks.
Would any Republican be willing to make that point?
She wants her constituents to stay unemployed and poor without opportunities. Welfare takers almost all vote Commie/D/whatever.
This is going to be fun. The new darling of the House is criticizing Amazon getting a special tax break. At the same time, Nadler the Hutt wants to subpoena the USPS to see if they were pressured by Trump to "hurt" Amazon, because Trump questions why Amazon gets a special discounted rate from the Post Office.
Has there actually been an announcement regarding the Amazon “2nd headquarters” or is everyone going off half-cocked again? I’ve been very busy so it’s possible I missed it, but to my knowledge it’s still just speculation at this point.
Should have picked Dallas, Amazon. You’ll see. Now you also have to deal with the unions up north too. What a huge mistake.
Maybe it’ll be an education to the residents of Queens of what they just knee-jerk elected. And they’ll force her onto the straight and narrow.
There’s fair deals — and Donald Trump himself knows how to get them — and then there’s absurdly doctrinaire politics which cut off one’s nose to spite one’s face. I’m a consultant on a payroll systems project for a major US retailer (not Amazon), which makes it all the more obvious to me where bread is realistically buttered. What Queens ought to do is to have bidding contests between major retailers. It doesn’t have to be Amazon that wins in the end.
wow I agree with her....some one check I think I might of caught a bad case of communism. I might need to be put down for the safety of all concerned and because if I do have it euthanasia is thee kindest thing that can be done for me.
It ought to all be a question about negotiation of a good deal for Queens.
