Many have been critical of Googles plan to launch a censored search engine in China, now a former Facebook executive has called out Googles CEO for lying about the companys motives.
Facebooks former security chief Alex Stamos took to Twitter recently to attack Google CEO Sundar Pichai for his comments defending the companys decision to move into the China market with its censored search engine known as Project Dragonfly, Silicon Beat reports.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Pichai stated that Google was committed to serving users in China and compared Chinese censorship laws to the right to be forgotten law in the European Union. Pichai received severe criticism for this comparison, both internally and from those outside of Google.
Tech companies constantly walk a difficult path between complying with local law and protecting human rights, Stamos tweeted Thursday. For Sundar to compare the right to be forgotten (which I agree is problematic) with censorship in China is, at best, amoral and mendacious.

“security chief” @ fb? Oh please tell us more!
Also, water is wet.
But, but there is money to be made selling the tools of the trade! Full speed ahead and damn the consequences! /s
BTW, all the leftie tech-visa detritus will have to be eliminated from American society. We'll keep the technology though.
And now we should believe this FB Security Chief that oversaw a series of security breaches that compromised personal data of millions?
It looks like Google will suck up to anyone for a few bucks. China will censor sites and collect data much more efficiently with Google’s help.
This “right to be forgotten” law in the EU has the potential to be very dangerous, too. I don’t mind if someone can request that some minor peccadillos be removed, but this has the scent of legalizing cover ups by those in power by mandating that third parties remove “offending” material.
Google’s simple problem is how do a bunch of left wing hypocritical sanctimonious twits such as we get the money
to do things that we rail against every day such as censorship from a tyrannical regime and try to convince our other markets that what we are doing to get the money is not so bad. They have gone with Plan B which is to obfuscate and yes, even lie if they have to.
If you censor Russians, terrorists and porn, it’s all over anyway.
That's exactly what it is. Sad to say, but Europe is lost. There are a few individual countries trying to stand up against the push to self-immolation (Poland stands out), but they are already well down the track to destruction from within.
