Time marches on for the nation's "old" culture. I know there are not many followers of NASCAR on tbe site, hut the man had a unique niche in American auto racing and deserves a mention.

Pearson and Petty owned NASCAR for good long while.
Watch Dallas NASCAR couple of Sundays ago (only cause my grandson was there) and couldn’t believe my eyes how empty the place was...

I’m from the Beach/Road racing days, when Fireball Roberts was my favorite driver.

Sad News.
I saw Big Bill France Sr. get in Pearson’s Holmon-Moody Ford a few days before the first race at Talladega. Driver’s were complaining that the tires were not up to the speeds they were running, close to 200mph. France went out and ran several laps at about 156mph if I remember that correctly. He then pulled the car back into the garage area, took a look at the tires and said we are gonna have a race Sunday.
Pearson was from a golden age in racing. R.I.P.

RIP Mr. Pearson. May the turns be high banked and the straightaways be long and fast!

A close friend of mine lives in Inman, SC where David actually lived. Friend was out looking for his lost coon dog and knocked on a door. David came to the door and offered to help him find his dog since he was a coon hunter too. They became good friends. I was never a Pearson fan, but I hear he was a super nice guy.

I remember him from his Ford/Mercury days, though I knew he had run Mopars earlier. Our family were Dodge/Plymmie fans all the way, but DP was good and we knew it.

Truly a great one. David Pearson was my hero as a young race fan. My dad was a fan of Richard Petty. Boy did we have some debates.RIP.

A lot of Grand National drivers refused to run that race...To fill the field, France allowed several Grand American drivers in the race....

I saw him at the 1970 Rebel 400 (the one that Richard Petty did the flip down the middle of the front straight). Saw him in 1972 and 73 also.
Watched him crash with Petty on the last lap at Daytona when Petty’s car wouldn’t start and his would.
Greatest Nascar driver Ever. Had a better winning percentage that any other driver (105 wins, not as much as Petty, but, he ran WAY fewer races).
I already miss him!
