Lutheran pastor and author Nadia Bolz-Weber has argued that there should be no shame in consuming pornography, especially if it is "ethically sourced."
In a recent interview with the New Jersey-based LGBT publication Out In Jersey, Bolz-Weber discussed her upcoming new book on the issue of sexual ethics and the church.
In discussing pornography, Bolz-Weber explained that while she recognizes that there are "issues of justice and exploitation within the porn industry," she still does not believe that the "consumption of pornography should be shamed."
"There is ethically sourced porn. There are people who say it's sexual immorality, but if you take Liberals and Conservatives who show outrage and made a Venn diagram of those who consume pornography, you'd see a huge overlap," said Bolz-Weber to Out in Jersey.
"There are people who consume pornography in a shame based way, it would be horrible if people know because they are those who are morally outraged as Liberals or Conservatives. That's a lonely place to exist, let's take that part out of it. I'm not going to shame people when they already feel ashamed."
Bolz-Weber's comments have drawn criticism from some, including conservative Christian author Rod Dreher, who argued that Bolz-Weber "inadvertently indicates why progressive Christianity has no future."
"If there is a more cartoonish example of progressive Christianity than a foul-mouthed lady pastor praising consumption of 'ethically-sourced porn,' I can't think of it," wrote Dreher.

A decade ago I worked with many who were graduates of a seminary of a well-known denomination (don’t ask in thread nor FReepmail, anyone. I will not give the name.)
Quoting Scripture - I might as well have been talking to a garden-variety unbeliever. It was quite shocking to see in person. But I should not have been surprised having been around liberals in a church 30 years ago.
ELCA she-pastor. I guess their ‘journey together’ includes going to porn shops. OMG.

The Venn diagram example she brings up is an indication of man’s sinfulness, not a reason to pretend the behavior is acceptable.
To their credit, the article says the ELCA has denounced her comments.

That’s obviously the first verse of that chapter but BibleGateway keeps putting the chapter there, these days (first verse).
So you consider Michelangelo’s David, Botticelli’ Venus and National Geographic to be porn ?
Shockingly, many Evangelical denominations are as well, increasingly. The promised Strong Delusion is upon us, bare for all to see.
The formerly Biblical church we attended is beginning to be affected too. Recently we received a letter from the pastor saying that one of their new initiatives would support “social justice.” To me, that is just one more loaded liberal phrase, and every time I hear that I feel like screaming, “where did Jesus ever talk about ‘social justice’??” When churches use it, it is just a cover-up for no longer living the gospel and instead replacing it with secular do-gooding.
Anyway, we don’t go there any longer.
Not much of a pastor, that Lutheran. My suggestion: banish her from the church, rescind her title, remove her from her role in the church. Repenting would be a good first start.
I can picture free range lesbians, but I don’t thing “cage free” is going to work that well for the S&M community.
So, Christian morals are determined by how the people in the church behave and what they think? I was always under the assumption that Lutherans were Christians.
