I suppose that the Continental Army, by using soldiers who were kids by our modern standards were not the good guys. Children of 8 learning the basics of marksmanship, fire and maneuver, military organization and self confidence will be great soldiers by the time they are 16.
The U.S. Army had the odd 12 through 17 year old soldiers in both WWI and WWII. Weren’t they “good guys”?

I had all my enlistment paperwork, medical, parents permission completed while I was still 16. The day of my 17th birthday I was sworn in, on the bus and arrived at Ft Bliss Army base for basic training. Technically it was all legal lol, but physically I enlisted at 16, started serving at 17.
