Matthew Whitakers tenure as acting attorney general may only be able to be measured in hours, but hes already made a huge impact in how asylum-seekers are processed at the southern border.
According to a new interim final rule from the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security, those who enter the country illegally and are captured will no longer be able to claim asylum and will instead be returned to their country of origin on an expedited basis.
Consistent with our immigration laws, the President has the broad authority to suspend or restrict the entry of aliens into the United States if he determines it to be in the national interest to do so, Whitaker said in a joint statement with DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
Todays rule applies this important principle to aliens who violate such a suspension or restriction regarding the southern border imposed by the President by invoking an express authority provided by Congress to restrict eligibility for asylum.
Our asylum system is overwhelmed with too many meritless asylum claims from aliens who place a tremendous burden on our resources, preventing us from being able to expeditiously grant asylum to those who truly deserve it. Today, we are using the authority granted to us by Congress to bar aliens who violate a Presidential suspension of entry or other restriction from asylum eligibility.

The Mob has 800 miles or more to go from Mexico City to Tijuana. Not going to happen. Probably it is a 1000 miles or more.
That's exactly what it looked like to me and I haven't been critical of him.
I said this yesterday to a FReeper and I'll say it to LJ also, stop beating a dead horse, he's gone whether for the better or worse.
.
Most of their travel is by flatbed trucks and buses when they are available. They walk only for photo ops.
.
-The Peter principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter, which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to their “level of incompetence”.-
Sessions has the Peter principle written all over him.
So, they turn around and re-enter at the right place and get in. Then they disappear. Well, disappear is subjective since they’re very visible when they go begging for freebies.
Not to pile on, but it’s true. He is gone.
I had high hopes for him.
I thought he was the man could possibly bring down Hillary.
Bupkis!
Big disappointment here...
Can’t argue with that.
It was that, or something we’re not privy to.
He’ll be back. The truth will out and we’ll figure out some of the ‘why’s’.
Thanks, a big disappointment for me too.
I don’t believe that since the Mob has been in Mexico City for about a week. Trucks with people hanging all over them have been forbidden by the Mexican government.
Every picture I have seen where trucks are involved shows them moving at a snail’s pace. Even with people on them it does not change much. My guess is they are used more for a resting place than for rapid transportation.
Assuming what you say is true, it means that these trucks cannot go full speed and I doubt if they can even make 40 mph. This would mean that it will take 10+ days to get to Tijuana. And it has already split up, before the going got really tough.
Another thing to consider is that if they were really on trucks we would be hearing about deaths from falling off. Have you heard of any?
Where does it say they get in and disappear?
Military strategy. Tump studied it in school, and applies Sun Tzu’s Art of War. Really, people need to stop seeing what Trump does through the lens of media.
I don’t think he can explain all this away.
We’ll see...
“:^)
.
Sessions became as clear as glass when he double crossed Cruz, with whom he had worked in the senate on immigration and border security, and jumped over to Trump when he realized that the MSM had foolishly assumed that Trump was the one to support for the primary (believing that they could make a fool of him).
The same can be said about Pence, and I still do not trust him. (I don’t think Trump does either)
Somebody (and I have no idea who) has helped Trump through this massive briar patch, and I do believe that he has a chance of holding this thing together.
Pray without ceasing!
.
So I’m to shut up and let people who really have no clue about what Sessions did while serving as AG continue to villify a great public servant?
.
Ever been to Mexico?
Few vehicles can do better than 40 on most of their roads.
Only a fool would take their own car to Mexico.
A shallow, media-informed comment.
Trump really does play 3-D chess and Sessions was doing exactly what Trump wanted him to do.
The next few months will prove it.
You don’t understand how it works? Sigh, ok, very slowly:
They ump across the single piece of barbed wire in arm pit nowhere along the border. BP drives up and tells them they entered the wrong spot. Ok, so they turn around and re-enter a 100 yards down the river bank at the big sign that says “US Border Patrol Office - Enter Here.” They get a stamp of approval and are released because there’s no room to hold them. Bam, they disappear into your neighborhood.
Not trying to be antagonistic, but do you honestly think I could only come to the conclusions I have by reading the offerings by the media and accepting them carte blanche?
Name one major indictment handed down by Sessions.
Who is it in the inside circle, that was taken to task?
Sessions failed miserably. In your heart you know it.
