Authorities have identified a Facebook post believed to have been made by the shooter around the time of the attack, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the ongoing investigation.
In it, the writer says: “I hope people call me insane… (laughing emojis).. wouldn’t that just be a big ball of irony? Yeah.. I’m insane, but the only thing you people do after these shootings is ‘hopes and prayers’.. or ‘keep you in my thoughts’… every time… and wonder why these keep happening…”
When CNN read the post to a friend of Long’s, who did not want to be publicly identified, the friend said, “That does not sound like Ian to me at all. I don’t know what was going through his head when he wrote this. It must have been terrible.”

Someone really needs to look into his intake of anti-anxiety mood-altering drugs. So far, I see no mention of it, nor of his combat experience if any. Psychotropic drugs have figured in all these shootings, including the Las Vegas one. Who is going to let us know about this apct in this one? Big pharma?

Someone should point out to her that it was someone on her very own team who killed her son/daughter, not a gun.
When an adult goes for a mass killing, there is frequently a military connection. Start with Charles Whitman, and track it forward.

The obvious ones, yes, but it’s expensive and easy to “lock up” people that are in fact harmless to society.
How about armed citizens who could kill a shooter on the spot. Simpler and cheaper.

I have my doubts on PTSD being related or if the murderer even had it. He freaked out and violently attacked his track coach in high school. He served one tour in Afghanistan. What specifically happened which could cause PTSD? Or did he just have an ordinary tour and was already a borderline nutball? How is it that thousands of veterans that have PTSD don’t go on murderous rampages? Idiot reporters are smearing every veteran with this guy’s madness.
and locked up doesn’t have to mean an institution.
Put them at home with a legal guardian.
If they cannot be held accountable for their actions by reason of insanity, then they cannot be out and about unsupervised.
