For almost 35 years, Tarrant County has been the most reliably red, urban county in Texas. Then, on Election Day, Democrat Beto O'Rourke beat Republican incumbent Ted Cruz in the county.

Actually, it is both, legal and illegal immigration.
No, it has to do with Cruz.
TX Gov Abbot got way more votes than he did.
I live in Tarrant county and this is what i observed.
* Lots of people here did not like the 2016 election convention speech badmouthing Trump.
* Cruz is not very likeable candidate. Funny voice.
* Cruz ran a TERRIBLE campaign with terrible TV ads.
* Tarrant County is booming in the suburbs with LOTS of Indians, Orientals, Hispanics. Many work for these High Tech companies that ‘Import’ in the labor, eventually they become citizens and have large families.
All these factors together almost cost US a US Senate Seat.
Florida.
Georgia.
Arizona.
Nevada.
Montana.
Colorado.
California.
Kansas.
To name a few...
You havent been paying attention.
AZ is red. All the dust up with McSally has to do with the incompetency of the newly elected Maricopa County Recorder and getting the votes counted. Don’t worry, they’ll be red. Republicans are either projected to win or close to being projected to win all of our state elected official positions.
Even in Texas I’d imagine any sizable city would already be around 35% committed Democrats. So I’m not sure it would be all that difficult to get another 10-15% of squishy, middle of the road voters to pull them over the top. Especially when you literally spend twice as much against an unlikable candidate like Ted Cruz.
Change in demographics?
Do you happen to have that map for 2016 and 2014?
Thanks.
I wish I did. My eyesight was in the ditch for some of that time (all better now thanks to modern medicine and the Lord TBTG) ...
Another day, another pearl clutcher. As others have pointed out, Cruz vs Beto was not a typical race. Getting hysterical over this while ignoring Abbot’s race is being purposefully blind to the good news so you can wallow in self-pity over the bad.
Also consider that Trump won blue states the democrats assumed were theirs without question. The GOP has written off blue collar workers and gone headlong into wooing illegal immigrants. The GOP thinking on this is pretty nearly suicidal. The GOP is pursuing money (Wall St) vs pursuing voters. Building a significant part of your party platform around the needs of a handful of billionaires is a perfect recipe for electoral irrelevancy.
Cruz, on the other hand, was nearly invisible this election cycle as far as I can tell. His campaign was actually trying to sell yard signs. He assumed that being a republican incumbent in Texas meant he didn’t have to campaign. Contrast that with the left putting the crown jewels into the O’Rourke campaign.
53% of white women vote Republican, let’s hate all white women and justify discrimination and oppression.
A fraction of Muslims endorse Islamic terrorism and want to overthrow democratic systems for religious theocratic law. But you can’t ever criticize the ideology because that’s “hate” and evil.
This reminds me of Dennis Prager’s video “Immigrants, don’t vote what you fled.”
Both foreign immigrants and ones from liberal states coming here come here for jobs and affordable housing ... and then vote for the party and policies that destroyed the place they fled.
Have you even observed the influx of Democratic voters in the past decade?
Absolutely it is a huge problem that needs attention. But all is not lost at this point. Cruz vs O’Rourke is a special circumstances. It was a midterm when the president’s party loses seats. In the house, Paul Ryan was a disaster for Republicans.
Trump is taking action with the ICE raids and border security. One missing piece is governors actually doing anything about illegal voting.
I moved away from sanctuary city Fort Worth last year. It’s overrun by illegals, tweakers, former California residents and people fleeing Dallas. It’s a shame.
Yep.
LMAO.
What can I say? I was wrong. Who expected McSally to lose?
The commie rats.
