Andrew Gillum Concedes to Ron DeSantis in Florida Governor’s Race

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Ron DeSantis was elected governor of Florida on Tuesday, handing President Trump an important victory and extending the Republican Party’s dominance in the nation’s third-largest state.

Mr. DeSantis, a 40-year-old former congressman, fended off his opponent, Andrew Gillum, one of the strongest candidates Florida Democrats had fielded in years. Republicans have now won every election for governor since 1998.

“Every two years there’s one day in November where elites don’t call the shots, don’t craft the narrative or set the agenda,” Mr. DeSantis told jubilant supporters festooned in confetti in an Orlando hotel ballroom late on Tuesday night. “On Election Day, it’s the voice of the people that rules.”

He thanked President Trump for standing by him “when it wasn’t necessarily the smart thing to do.”

“I think you are going to get tired of me calling you asking you for things for Florida,” Mr. DeSantis told the president from afar.

Black. There’s your answer. When you get over 90% of one demographic, it’s always going to be fairly close. If Gillum were White, running on the same platform he’d have gotten slaughtered.

Obama openly campaigned for Fla's Gillum.....and Nelson.

The Obama Kiss of Death----both lost.

Great photo, the 3 losers. Obama should have done what other respected Presidents do and stay off the campaign trail, now his loser legacy is sealed.

Also wasn’t their a mass migration of Puerto Ricans specifically moving there to turn Florida blue?

I suspect that the Feds will ultimately prevail over any state bans against offshore drilling.

Personally I find dog racing to be cruel, but it has a long history in Florida. Hard to imagine they have done away with it.

My biggest issue with all of this crap is that they passed these initiatives as “constitutional amendments.” These initiatives failed in the legislature, so they’re taking them to the ballot box for approval. That’s not how this process is supposed to work!

Agreed.

Nothing emphasizes Obama's narcissism more than that pic.
Recaptioned "destined for oblivion."

And 45 minutes later, Fox News called it for DeSantis.

Nah. That’s Obama.

Gillum would get whatever leftover Obama told him he could take. Didn’t matter what they say, he’s special and privileged.

Dems will be in touch with as many felons as they can and get them registered. No doubt about it.

Wow. Won't that take away time from their taking down the names off tombstones and registering them to vote?

Yes, but it will give them real, live people to sign up. That’s better than the dead vote.

When I was a FL resident, I was completely unsuccessful in getting people to understand that Florida’s frequent constitutional amendments by referendum for issues that are properly the duty of the legislature and NOT constitutional are big mistakes.

Almost no one understood that principle. I also gave up explaining that running a state government by referendum is a slow moving disaster.

Some years ago they banned smoking in bars via constitutional amendment. Insane.

I was just on the animal rescue site
It said greyhound racing was banned in Florida. Must-have been on the ballot. I wonder what happens to the dogs.
