A fish and chips shop in Australia has become the subject of a heated debate, with some calling for a boycott of the popular spot, because of its name.

The Battered Wife, in Innisfail, Queensland, has sparked an intense argument on social media about whether or not the name is appropriate.

The Red Heart Campaign, an organization that raises awareness about domestic violence against women and children in the country, called out the business on Facebook Monday.

The shop is owned by a woman who had been a domestic violence victim. The assumptions that were made was that the shop was owned by a guy and that he was being politically provocative and ornery and poking fun at female sensitivities. Now that it is out that a woman owns the shop who herself was a victim and was trying to make her own statement, it should be rather interesting to watch the egg on the critics’ faces and the various gyrations that the pols will make to make the story go away.
