Citizens in four states vote Tuesday on ballot initiatives to legalize some form of cannabis. Residents of Missouri and Utah will decide on its medical availability, Michigan and North Dakota on recreational consumption for adults. If all four measures pass, the tally of states that allow some sort of cannabis use will jump to 32, nearly two-thirds of the U.S.
The trend could not be clearer: Cannabis prohibition is coming to an end. A Gallup poll last month found 66% of Americans favor legal marijuana.
I am now one of those Americans. It began when a friend of mine who suffered from chronic back pain found relief using medical cannabis. Intrigued, I looked deeper into the uses of marijuana. I learned that in April the Food and Drug Administration approved medication called Epidiolex, which can reduce the number of seizures epileptic children have to endure. It contains only nonpsychoactive components of cannabis plants.
Marijuana is helping people across the country. Since joining the board of cannabis operator Acreage Holdings this past spring, Ive spoken with countless senior citizens, baby boomers and millennials about their experiences medicating with cannabis to thwart the rigors of chemotherapy, ease muscle pain, relieve anxiety and more. Convinced as I am by mounting scientific and anecdotal evidence, what resonates most with me is that one by one, our states have spoken.
Until cannabis is legalized federally, Washington needs to respect states rights to regulate it within their borders. The 10th Amendment clearly protects states prerogative to do so, and we must not allow the federal nanny state to dictate otherwise. The bipartisan Strengthening the Tenth Amendment Through Entrusting States Act, introduced in the House and Senate in June, is a step in the right direction. It would let states make their own decisions about the possession,

So I guess John’s no longer satisfied to go through life drunk all the time? He thinks getting stoned will be better?
I’m okay with it. Too much nanny-state as is... Now I won’t use it, but that’s a choice, no?
It’s eventually going to happen anyway. The entire prohibition thing was a nasty costly charade which only grew the size, scope and control of government.
OOPS! Left out ‘because’................
At 8 miles per hour.
I know politically the biggest issue for dims is abortion. Personally though I think their biggest issue for many is really marijuana. Yes I realize Rs use or would like to use marijuana too, but in sheer numbers I think it is a bigger deal to dims.
I wonder how fired up Democrats could get their voters if marijuana was legal? Could be that possibly be the issue that would take the fight out of many of them.
I was listening to someone on KFI Los Angeles years ago during 5 o’clock traffic...the man said he thought drivers were getting stressed and angrier and something had to change. His idea was for people to use marijuana right before leaving work to get in the horrible traffic to go home. Of course he made it all a joke, how the boss would stand at the time clock and give everyone a joint at the end of the day. Then of course all these mellow people would do better in the crazy traffic.
Will of the voter matters unless youre a nanny stater, IMO.
Happy to see voters & states deciding for themselves.
And your kids will be druggies and looking for something harder. Medicinal is one thing...but don’t put it in a smoke.
Okay, but NOT tobacco!
Why did you put the left blinker on in order to make a right turn?
So it’s WEED that turns him into a CRYBABY at the drop of a hat! I thought it was RED WINE, but not anymore!
If you want to get on the fast track to permanent mental impairment, smoke weed on a regular basis.

yup
Has Boehner written articles in major news papers taking stands on other issues?
Maybe he has and I just don’t know, but if he hasn’t then why...of all issues...did he choose to speak out on this one?
“Cannabis prohibition is coming to an end. A Gallup poll last month found 66% of Americans favor legal marijuana.”
It is a done deal.
While there will be states that initially hold out, they too will fall to this tide.
It will frustrate and anger millions, but there’s nothing they can do about it now.
The merits of this course are no longer relevant. It’s an argument who’s time has passed.
I saw firsthand the difference it made for someone I loved who was dying of cancer. I am all for it, but Texas has yet to legalize it.
“The driver admitted to having fired up a joint just before getting behind the wheel.”
There will always be those who violate the law and the sane admonition to not drive when impaired. Whether Pot, opioids, cough medicine or liquor.
Whether pot is legal or not.
Is pot legal in your state?
I saw it a lot when I was in combat in Viet Nam and saw several guys I had gotten to know get maimed and killed due to their drug impaired conditions when we came under attack out in the boonies. I could never quite get my head wrapped around that kind of reckless personal behavior. I always wanted my full unimpaired faculty’s and wits about me when having to make split second life and death decisions.
I've smoked pot regularly for 50+ years. I am 70.
I was in the top 2% of my high school class academically.
I was the first in my high school class to graduate college, Arizona State University in three years with a business degree. I was in the top 10% of my class academically
I was an officer in the Air Force for 8 years.
I have worked professionally as a hospital administrator, a mortgage banker and a commercial print broker. And have run three small businesses for the last 15 years.
I am retired and currently raise beef cattle on a spread in Florida.
I own 6 homes and am debt free.
There is nothing impaired about me. I don't drink alcohol and relax with a joint once in a while.
You need to check the facts, TruthFactor, before making yourself look stupid like you just did with your comment.
I live here and haven’t seen the evidence of that. May be they report it more where your at, but they don’t say anything over here in the Yakima valley.
Because of being stoned and not knowing the difference or not caring, perhaps?!
