Not only did Northam win the Virginia race, he won by 9 points, a polling error more substantial than anything we saw in 2016. Gillespie, it turns out, actually won more votes than any previous statewide Republican candidate; he had enthusiasm at his back. Its just that Democrats had moreand they blew the doors off on Election Day. The whole spectacle was yet another blow to polling and to punditry, two industries sullied by Trumps victory in 2016.

To compare the GOP politics in VA to rest of the country is sheer insanity. Anyone who makes this comparison is a complete idiot.
I cant wait for the safe rooms, coloring books and screaming at the sky.
Theyll need a lot of TLC if they incur more election-related seizures.
Every liberal said Hillary had it in the bag. It looked that way until Trump won OH.
I am scratchin my head how this writer forgot that ?
My very conservative neighbor was on a plane when what he described as a Nancy Pelosi clone sat next to him. Early on she volunteered that she hates Trump. He just gave he a concerned look and said “It must really be terrible to be so consumed by hatred. We’re just happy the economy is doing good and it looks like our kids and grandkids may have a better future. I’m glad I don’t spend my time hating people, that would be a lousy way to live”. She was dumbfounded.
As.
The lines for Trumps rallies tell the tale. Republican gains in both houses or massive fraud.
article is unadulterated twaddle, shot though with BS phrases like “Enthusiasm in this election, though, is mostly fueled by Democrats” and “unpopular president in the White House” ... writer clearly lives in a bubble in Bizzaro World ...
If Pubbies should lose, it wont be because Trump didnt work his ass off for them.
It looks to me as though the Dems have the same turnout machine going that they had in 2008, so the RNC had better be on their game.
Said wtiter didnt see todays jam-packed Trump rallies. Fake news is missing the big picture.
Same? They have no new leaders since 2008.
Name me a reason Democrats have to come out to vote.
unadulterated, unending, seething hatred
><
Exactly! They don’t give a damn what’s good for the country.
True that may be, but during midterms my district usually looks like Death Valley. Usually it is not canvassed weekly. Their ground game here looks like 2008.
Yes they do. I have continued to be pessimistic on Repub chances this year. The Nevada machine is currently running at a crazy high level as we speak. Clark will turn out at least 45,000 maybe 50,000 votes today.
Not enough to catch Heller.
Plus Trump has 52/48 approval rating in the state.
The economy is benefiting Heller and his vote for Kavanaugh hasnt hurt him in NV.
I disagree. I see no evidence of the so-called seething hatred driving Dems to the polls. I think they’re motivated to be sure, but on 2008 levels? I don’t see it. We saw no stories about Black and other lifelong Dem voting blocs breaking for McCain or Romney in 2008 or 2012. The playing field has changed considerably since th9ose two ran. Also, this week’s jobs report exceeded expectationsp, and wages shot up 3%, the highest in nine years. I’m always wary of letting Mt emotions in regarding elections, but my sense is the momentum has shifted to the GOP. Trump’s relentless campaigning is obviously a big reason, but mostly, I think his transparency and honest speaking - as blunt as it sometimes is — is welcomed by Americans (of all persuasions and political views) who’ve grown sick of the let’s PC tyranny.
