Through more than a half-century, American schools have been blamed for almost every major national problem, from the Russians success in beating us into space with Sputnik in 1957 to the nations perceived failure to match the apparent economic successes of the Germans and the Japanese in the 1980s.

But maybe the biggest educational shortcoming of the past 50 years has gotten almost no attention, and thats the failure to adequately teach government, civics and history. Nearly four in 10 American adults, according to the latest polls, still support the presidency of a self-confessed sexual abuser, a chronic liar, an abettor of every form of bigotry, public corruption and violence.
Ah yes another liberal intellect looking down on the ignorant masses.

The solution is obviously to push additional levels of Marxist indoctrination in government schools. Of course. [/s]

No, latest polls show its over 5 in 10. God bless them.

He needs to update the article. Its now 5 in 10 approve monster Trump....not 4 in 10

By the time I got through publik skrewl and so-called higher ed, I was a flaming, five-alarm socialist. But I didn’t stay that way. And I’m not alone. That’s the real problem. They can indoctrinate, but they can’t make you keep your brain in neutral.

Imagine how badly the educrat-progressive complex has degenerated since then. Why, they might even start wearing masks and attacking political opposition again.
Oh, wait. They already did.

US public schools have been teaching that America is an oppressor nation for almost 40 years. When the first wave of Vietnamese immigrants came, in an effort to make the children feel better, the multi-cultural thing started. Instead of its being a celebration of ones ancestral heritage, it became an all-cultures-are-equal thing.
People who came to the USA used to want to be American and celebrate our freedoms and opportunities. They didnt want to change us into their culture.

Heh, that description could pertain to Dorkbama the Muslim eunuch quota boy more accurately than to the Trumpster.
I love how progressives keep stepping on their schwanzstuckers.

This is true.
US education used to be extremely patriotic. You could say propagandistic even, about creating a national identity.
This overt plugging of patriotism and national symbols was borrowed from France and Germany in the 19th century.
Whatever its failings, it did succeed in creating a national identity among a diverse people, especially among immigrants.
But in modern times, the last fifty years, its become the policy to do the exact opposite.

I imagine education is partly to blame but when half of the people would still vote for proven criminals like Bill and Hillary or any other socialist the problem is the People.

Ah yes another liberal intellect looking down on the ignorant masses Quotes from "The Russian Revolution" by Alan Moorehead 1958:
"
this was a predatory state which the Czar and a small group of noblemen and bureaucrats ruled for their own exclusive benefit...The ruling group owned all the wealth, enjoyed all the privileges and monopolized all the political power, and it did not intend to give up any of its prerogatives. It considered the peasants to be little better than animals..."

Did American public schools help give rise to Trump? 2016 was a fairly simple election for me. No more Bush's and Clinton's. I am still satisfied with how I voted..
