Congress has a committee that functions as its state legislature, I thought.

How can a city do this?

Washington, DC, could let 16-year-olds vote for president

What a great idea. The deep wisdom if children is well known.

The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

You must let an 18 year-old citizen vote, but it does not prohibit states from lowering the voting age.

The push for convicted felons to vote in several states (shocking).

Any illegal alien in CA with a driver’s license can get a voter ID and vote. (shocking)

Same day voters could be non-citizens but allowed to vote while clerical work on seeing if their status and address are right can’t be done well due to not enough staff so just let the votes stand. Some may vote several times that day.

Now 16 year olds who saw some voting stuff on Nick Jr and learned a little from some video game pals and now go out to vote Dem. Teachers all said to do it, too.

Tell me again about the educated electorate making decisions for the future of our country. I missed something.

The Democrats recognize that only people with a child-like view of the world support the party’s beliefs, so this move seems to make a lot sense for them.

I don’t think this can happen. It took an Amendment to change it from 21 to 18, This is will be a case going to the court.

This will not pass Constitutional muster absent an additional Amendment specifically lowering the voting age to 16.

The left says that a person is not mature until 29. The left doesn’t want teenagers thrown in prison for actual crimes and murders that they commit. The left won’t let anyone under a certain age buy tobacco or alcohol.

But the left is eager to declare that 16 year olds can vote, chop off their sex organs, have gay sex and have abortions.

They’ll vote about as often as 18 year olds do. Maybe less.

Are they ready to be drafted? To be held accountable as adults in court cases? That’s how 18 year-olds rate the privilege of voting.

Let’s see.....16 is old enough to vote, barely old enough to drive unsupervised, not old enough to own a firearm, and not mature enough to drink.

I wonder what the age of sexual consent is in DC? If a 16 year old has sex with an adult is that rape?

So confusing how we define mature.

A 16yo can barely tie their own shoelaces, they can’t work full-time, and they do not have brains developed enough for critical thought. (as we see in certain parkland individuals for instance) For the most part, they are parrots. Spouting off without being able to cogently explain why. But, if they think they are old enough at 16 to vote, then they’re old enough for mandatory work on infrastructure projects at 16, too. Who needs school anyway?

This is another reason why the electoral college exists. Each state can decide how to run their own elections. The federal government has no interest in how some state choses their local or state governments.

They do have some interest in the federal offices, but the constitution strictly defines that. What it clearly states is that a state gets 2 senators, gets X number of representatives based on the TOTAL POPULATION of the state (nothing to do with voters), and X+2 votes for President.

So, if the citizens of a state want to allow 16-year-olds to vote, or felons to vote, or to implement month-long elections, or moter voter registration, or be really lax about their voter id — that can hurt the people who live IN the state, but does little to any other state.

California can double their voting population, giving millions of extra votes to a presidential candidate, but it makes NO difference to the outcomes, they have the same number of representatives, senators, and electoral college votes as if they had a really restrictive policy on voting.

If you eliminated the electoral college, you would HAVE to implement a single nationwide policy for eligibility and capability to vote for president — the 14th amendment would require it, as we saw in florida, to ensure that every single person’s vote counted equally.

Hey, WDC nitewits: How about letting fetuses vote? They often are murdered, ripped apart and sold for parts. Maybe they would like to change that.
