Expect an explosion of media outrage and high powered lawsuits, especially in jurisdictions with Trump-hating federal judges. President Trump has launched an October surprise.
Last night in an interview granted to Jonathan Swan of Axios, President Trump announced his plans to use an executive order to end birthright citizenship for children born on American territory to illegal immigrants and foreign citizens, presumably at least those “not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States” as required by the 14th Amendment.
The Washington Post reports
“We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits,” Trump said during an interview with Axios scheduled to air as part of a new HBO series starting this weekend. “It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. And it has to end.”
Trump, who has long decried “anchor babies,” said he has discussed the move with his legal counsel and believes it can be accomplished with executive action, a view at odds with the opinions of many legal scholars.
“It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t,” Trump told Axios.
When told that view is disputed, Trump asserted: “You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they’re saying I can do it just with an executive order.”
“It’s in the process. It’ll happen . . . with an executive order,” he said, without offering a time frame.

Trump said point-blank on TV that the troops are going to be building huge tents to hold people, who will be waiting for amnesty processing.
Now, for legal reasons amnesty could be denied to 100% of them but the point absolutely IS that Trump’s plans do include permitting them —maybe all of them— onto US territory.
So US decision makers ARE planning for that Caravan to physically reach the US border and to cross over. That gives the left an opportunity to orchestrate a violent confrontation with US troops.
If the bullet doesn’t come from our side, the left WILL supply it, then blame our side, and the media will absolutely fall into line.
I am wondering:
Does Trump WANT them to cross, the better to build public outrage and support for The Wall..?
If your parents are not citizens, and have not arrived LEGALLY then how can you become a citizen?
If you travel on an airplane JUST TO arrive here to give birth, then you should also not be a citizen.
NO OTHER COUNTRY does that. That’s all Trump needs to say. And just do it.
Let them squeal like the little pleasure piggies they are.

What of the voting rights of newly freed slaves..?
The North wanted them to be voters.
It would be a little too direct to write a law saying, “Hey EVEN black people can vote..”
They made it more indirect:
“If you were born in the USA, then you can vote in the USA”
I believe if a foreign diplomat has kids born in the USA, they are specifically exempted from this voting benefit —they CANNOT vote and are not Americans.
Birth Citizenship originally had NOTHING to do with people coming here and then having kids, it was about BLACK PEOPLE.
President Trump could explode more liberal heads by making this executive order retroactive.
Obama use an EO for DACA. I don’t remember the left caring then.

If President Trump is going to try and end birthright citizenship via executive order I hope he takes a sobering few minutes to share a detailed and clear civics lesson, point by point, why this is correct interpretation of the 14th amendment, why he has the authority, and why now. I agree with the long overdue action, but fear a debacle if put out there without explanation, leaving interpretation to the media. And I say try, because if not clear in action, he’ll have this stopped by the court before the ink has dried. Too bad we cannot revoke any received in the past but I suspect that would be a non-starter.
SUCH a bad idea. Look at the situation with refugees anywhere on earth... Kurds, Israelis, Pakistanis, etc.

In the past 15 years, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia have all revoked citizenship for children of illegal aliens. European countries have never had this stupid policy. Changing this pernicious practice in the USA is long overdue.

The 14th amendment was not about voting rights, if it was,
we would not have needed the 15th and 19th amendments.
They should NEVER be allowed in. NEVER.
