GAB is not going anywhere
GAB.AI ^ | 10/29/2018 | Andrew Torba, CEO Gab.com

Posted on 10/30/2018 3:52:02 AM PDT by jmcenanly

Gab has spent the past 48 hours proudly working with the DOJ and FBI to bring justice to an alleged terrorist. Because of the data we provided, they now have plenty of evidence for their case. In the midst of this Gab has been no-platformed by essential internet infrastructure providers at every level. We are the most censored, smeared, and no-platformed startup in history, which means we are a threat to the media and to the Silicon Valley Oligarchy.

Gab isn’t going anywhere.

It doesn’t matter what you write. It doesn’t matter what the sophist talking heads say on TV. It doesn’t matter what verified nobodies say on Twitter. We have plenty of options, resources, and support. We will exercise every possible avenue to keep Gab online and defend free speech and individual liberty for all people.

You have all just made Gab a nationally recognized brand as the home of free speech online at a time when Silicon Valley is stifling political speech they disagree with to interfere in a US election.

The internet is not reality. TV is not reality. 80% of normal everyday people agree with Gab and support free expression and liberty. The online outrage mob and mainstream media spin machine are the minority opinion. People are waking up, so please keep pointing the finger at a social network instead of pointing the finger at the alleged shooter who holds sole responsibility for his actions.

No-platform us all you want. Ban us all you want. Smear us all you want.

You can’t stop an idea.

As we transition to a new hosting provider Gab will be inaccessible for a period of time. We are working around the clock to get Gab.com back online. Thank you and remember to speak freely.

Andrew Torba, CEO Gab.com

For all we “know” about this guy it strikes me there is a lot we don’t. It sounds like he had no family or friends. We have no idea what he did for a living. As to his motive, who knows. Is it even important? He should be judged on what he has done. That is sufficient. Efforts to attribute motive reflect on the accuser more than the accused IMHO.

How many Twitter or Facebook accounts are fake? Gab is not the only place where one chooses anonymity. Doesn’t make everything posted any worse on Gab than any other site. I can avoid what I want. Actually it is self responsibility to filter for myself what I read. I don’t need the government, Zuckerberg or someone on Twitter making my choices.

Admirable. I admire the spirit.
I even found the message somewhat inspiring.
More power to you, Gab.

Welcome to Free Republic. I see you’ve recently joined us. As you chose to ignore in my original post, I point out the differences between this forum and GAB. Also, if you look at my bio page, you’ll see that I have posted plenty about myself. But you just keep coming with those zingers of yours.

Hey, if you like sites where people refer to Jews as “oven-dodgers” then go have a great time over at GAB. My point was that I tend to enjoy sites like this one where there is some level of oversight from moderators.

Holocaust deniers, flat earthers and very prejudice white boys.

Also some UK patriot girls though so that’s a plus.

Bolsonaro supporters in Brazil were kicked off social media for posting “fake news” was one excuse.
there is a pattern emerging.

20 Oct: Bloomberg: WhatsApp Bans More Than 100,000 Accounts in Brazil Election
By Sarah Frier and Giulia Camillo; With assistance by David Biller
WhatsApp banned hundreds of thousands of accounts in Brazil as the Facebook Inc. messaging service struggles to contain spam, misinformation and political shenanigans ahead of a runoff election in Latin America’s largest country...

Facebook set up a “war room” to stem the tide of hate speech, false information and other damaging content during Brazil’s election this month...While the company said it was able to thwart false information on its main social network, it’s had more trouble controlling misbehavior on WhatsApp, which is encrypted and virtually impossible to monitor...

Newspaper Folha de S.Paulo this week reported allegations that companies are paying for a mass social media campaign against Haddad, and the country’s top electoral court responded on Friday night by saying it will open a formal probe against Bolsonaro. Several political parties, including Haddad’s Workers’ Party, are jointly requesting that Bolsonaro be declared ineligible for 8 years for abuse of economic power and misuse of digital communication.
Brazil’s federal police also opened an investigation into allegations of spam message
campaigns on WhatsApp related to the election.
Bolsonaro wrote on Twitter that his opponent’s party “isn’t being damaged by fake news, but rather by the truth.”...
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-19/whatsapp-bans-more-than-100-000-accounts-in-brazil-election

loads of anti-conservative propaganda in the following, but it notes how some of the Bolsonaro supporters had to move to Gab:

30 Oct: What’s the story behind Gab, the favoured platform of the US alt-right?
The Signal By Stephen Smiley and Angela Lavoipierre
Will Sommers is a tech and internet reporter at US website The Daily Beast, and told The Signal he estimates Gab has more than 400,000 users, based on figures from March of this year; Gab says its users number is 800,000.
Sommers has an account on Gab himself, but says he is an infrequent poster...

He says the platform’s laxer community rules attract users seeking to share extreme and offensive types of content, and also those who have been booted off bigger, more widely known platforms...
“There are also people who like the idea that they won’t get kicked off Gab in general — libertarians, people who are there because they’re trying to politically support Gab and its mission, for example,” Sommers said.

“And there are also other communities — for instance, there was an incident recently where there was something going on with Brazilian social media so a lot of Brazilians set up accounts on Gab.
“So essentially, communities that have sort of been exiled from other social media platforms end up on Gab.”...
“Because of the way the internet infrastructure works, Gab has to work with other companies — so they have to get, for example, Microsoft or another company to provide their cloud service,” he said...

I can and do assume self responsibility regarding what I read. FR has moderators which is great and appreciated. Twitter and Facebook ban conservative voices by decree of liberal owners. And as a person with Jewish heritage, no I would never read those groups but I realize it is reality that low life’s who spout that exist.

The world has many insane people doesn’t mean speech can or should be banned unless it invokes violence.

I do not think any speech should be banned (unless it is a direct threat to another person). I'm well aware of the evil in the world. I deal directly with it every day of my professional life.

But websites are private entities and should therefore be able to police their content. GAB has chosen to be wild west of true racists and hate-filled low-IQ'd heathens. So be it, but it's not for me. I'll spend my free time in other pursuits. You and I agree on this. Evil exists and it should be heard. If for no other reason than we know where it is and can defend ourselves against them.

If you don’t moderate a forum, part of it will look like a toilet stall in a public restroom used by teenaged boys.

I’ve never used Gab, but I take it that moderating it is a “do-it-yourself” project. You have to block the people whose posting you find offensive. Sounds burdensome, no?

Now let’s turn it around, and say that you get to post what you wanna - and nobody can prevent anyone who wants to see your post from doing so. All of a sudden, it sounds a lot like freedom of speech, doesn’t it???

I’m happy on FR. It’s moderated, but nearly all of what’s posted that I’m interested in will, IMHO, be left up by the Mods. And nearly all of what I don’t want to see, IMHO, gets clipped.

That is why I am on FR everyday. The only site where I get intelligent, honest opinions and news and even here I am free to skip over what I chose.

“GAB is a place for cowards who aren’t man enough to say what they want without anonymity.”

Hyperbole.

Uh, no, that would be opinion. Not hyperbole. There is nothing exaggerated in my own personal opinion. They would never say those things unless they could hide behind a keyboard.

I don't think you know what hyperbole actually means. If I said, "Everyone from North Carolina is an idiot" that would be hyperbole.

If I said, "I think all people from North Carolina are idiots" then that is an opinion and not hyperbolic. I could be factually wrong, but hyperbole is exaggeration. If I actually think everyone from NC is an idiot, then it's not hyperbole.

“Just be aware, if threats are conveyed GAB may archive the posts & share with law enforcement especially if a criminal act is committed by that user as relates to the content.”

As well they should
