My Honduran-born wife uses Facebook to keep in touch with her family in Honduras. Many posts are her thoughts on the topic of the day, and immigration and politics are certainly represented in what she posts. A little about my wife, she served as an interviewer inside of a US Consulate in Latin America, and is thoroughly familiar with immigration law, the process, and the plight of those wishing to visit or immigrate to the US. She is 100% against illegal immigration. Why? Among other things, she also served as a finance officer of a hospital in Northern Virginia, and saw it change hands as a result of immigrants using the Emergency Room as their primary care, and the draining of the charitable foundations that are typically put aside for Americans that cannot pay. My wife gets it. She knows where blessing comes from: American hearts and their taxes.
Naturally, her family responds to the posts and I thought it might be informative to the readership to know the mind of an average middle class family from Honduras. Note that in the past 20 years, my wife and I paid for medical school, law school, and refrigeration vocational-tech school.
A. Here is a summation of the responses from various family members, I distilled them into these main ideas:
- 1. Her family is upset that she is not "in solidarity" with them, and my wife "forgot where she came from."
- 2. They assert the migrants just want to work and to flee the gang violence.
- 3. Hondurans cannot change their government-- it's too corrupt, so the US is their only hope..
- 4. They generally had no concept of how Americans thought about this-- they are thinking it's POTUS and a minority. (Comment- This is courtesy of the leftist press there as well.)
- 5. From their point of view, everyone knows friends or family members here, and know they live a life substantially better than they will ever have. So what has changed to cause a border confrontation?
(Hint: DJT's politics)
B. Here are implications that were not considered from their arguments:
- 1. Law breaking. The end justifies the mean, situational ethics.
- 2. No understanding of the concept of taxes (most Central Americans are not taxed- a Value Added Tax (VAT) is added onto most sales, nor the financial burden Americans have (welfare, medical, children's schools, etc) shouldered.
- 3. No respect for what Americans have built, and what was sacrificed. They want to partake because being poor sucks.
C. How are illegals able to stay (everyone knows this from the immigrant side, it's the Americans that need education):
There are no consequences.
No government form of ID is required to get housing.
No one comes after an over-stayed visa.
Access to school is free.
Saturation of pro-immigrant lawyers in the US.
D. Conclusion: The time has come to where migrants want your stuff, and there is nothing detering them. They have abandoned being citizens of their own countries. They are incapable of governing themselves, and being governed. They certainly do not think like Americans nor anything in which we value. Their system doesn't produce responsible, moral citizens. It produces a people that wants stuff. And they want it now.

Good point.
To answer your question, NO: people with means will not go the caravan route. They over-stay their visa. It's that simple. Caravan route is to risky and is more for the lower class. I didn't mention this but I have a niece that is here illegally as of next month. With her husband and two kids. She is a lawyer, he is an accountant.
Remember, there are no consequences.
BUMP!
Extremely informative!!
This may well be the best Vanity Post ever!
It’s not about Justice.......If they have cell phones and computers they have certainly seen how a revolution happens and its done..... They are not victims..... They could have organized far more easily right there in their country against their government. They didn’t which makes them cowards as they run away from their country.
....RETAIL VALUE: $389.00
so I wouldn't say these folks are poor by any stretch...
And those lower class ones, in the "caravan", will bleed this country dry, should they manage to get in and add less than NOTHING WORTH A DAMN to this nation. They and you niece and her family are parasites, who need to be gotten rid of.
And no...I do NOT want to hear that old lefty song about how we are all immigrants/descended from immigrants! My great great grandparents came here for FREEDOM, learned English ASAP, as did their children, were well educated and NEVER expected to be "taken care of", once they were here! They and their descendants also all LOVED/LOVE this nation and added to it in many different GOOD ways.
And like SO many of these POS....THEY ARE FAT; ALMOST OBESE!
Costa Rica has an army?
If they put half as much effort into fixing their country they could do something about their problems with their government.
Papa stroller pusher looks terribly undernourished, too.
I didn’t say they would’t work....so let me put it another way.....
After they have the job you say Americans won’t do how long before they want “more” than those jobs affords them without earning or doing the work to get even ahead of that? In other words, according to what you’ve stated they want more now....so how will the mindset they have now be any different once they can’t keep up with the Jones.
Frankly I don’t give a hoot what their feelings are about their country or mindset regarding what they want......they need to do it in their own country......and that’s the bottom line ......and this regardless of how many illegals they think gives them the right to be here as well...just because they can.
Informative post. Some of it I knew in my gut, osmosis, and observation, but you gave us a closer analysis of their mindsets...well formed in thought and presentation.
Big problems on this front. We are lucky to have Trump at the helm right now. I do hope he will be in for 8. But what to do in 2024? There is no mini-Trump being gromed at this moment. We got a very unique president. We better savour and pray for him while we have him.
You make it sound like she being a lawyer and he an accountant should somehow make it ok they are here....even though she's broken the law by still being here ( next month) and you and your family aiding and abetting that...Because as you've said "there are no consequences."
And you're alright with this?
(knowingly Overstaying visas is still criminal.....can be barred from returning to the U.S. for ten years or three years depending on the period of overstay.)
I suspect since she's an Attorney she's going to apply for extensions etc. unless she's already exhausted those.
No matter how you frame this you know you are still taking advantage of the privileges of being here and really no different than those now coming here....it is still abusing our systems.
Really interesting post..!
President Pence.
He’s not responsible for what his relatives do.
Simple answer to WHY they dont stay in Mexico, Mexico doesnt have FREE STUFF!!!
Would you say that to all families? Where do we enforce those lines or don’t we? It would appear there really are no consequences for illegals here or those coming in.....
Our government has failed to address immigration period both now and in the past....and so here we are facing the music.
Will be interesting to see what happens after the mid-terms.....which may be why the mad dash to the USA is in full force now.....
Because they know what’s coming after the election...and dare I say “Sessions” will reveal in full what he’s been really up to! ....going to be a lot of people here eating their words.
