Fox News Shepard Smith dismissed the notion that a caravan of migrants headed to the U.S.-Mexico border were part of an invasion, pushing back against a term espoused by President Trump and others to describe the group.
On his show Monday, Smith said the charged language surrounding the caravan has to do with the coming midterm elections and stressed that the urgency behind the warnings is overblown. He said Fox News forecasts the migrant group is more than two months away from arriving in the U.S. as of Tuesday, adding, if any of them actually come here.
But tomorrow is one week before the midterm election, which is what all of this is about, Smith said. There is no invasion. No ones coming to get you. There is nothing at all to worry about.
The issue of the caravan has attracted some conspiracy theories, including one in which liberal billionaire George Soros and his foundation financially backed the caravan.
The suspected gunman behind the deadly mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue on Saturday, Robert Bowers, had posted anti-Semitic content on social media and shared posts that referred to the migrants as a third world caravan and invaders.
President Trump has also used the term invasion to characterize the group of migrants as he warned they would not be accepted into the U.S.

Shepard Smith is dreaming of all those sweaty young gardeners.
Too late. Many poles have been in that hole.
Or drop Shep in the middle of East Bakersfield. Nothing to worry about? Just see what it is like when the invasion gets close up and personal.
I have absolutely no problem with Shep Smith if he was on a program like Shawn Hannity. Hannity does not pretend to be a newsman but is quite open in his support of conservative positions and is a conservative partisan. His show is not a news show but a self defined opinion show. He does not pretend to be a reporter or newsman as Shep Smith does.
I have extreme objection to Shep Smith appearing on what is supposed to be a news show and spouting his left wing ideology. Give Shep Smith his own opinion program as Hannity and watch it fail.
Absolutely, I would love to call Fox News and tell them what I think of Shep and all the Liberal vermin that Tucker Carlson puts on every night like Chris Hahn.
Shep, just put your pink pussy hat on and go down there and take a look see for yourself.
Oh, and since you think that this is just an innocent group of people, no bodyguards, cameramen or anyone else. Just you dressed in casual clothes and nothing identifying you as a press person. Let’s see how long before his pretty face get mugged.
His job is not to interpret news and events for the rest of us. I don’t care about his opinion in the context of his job. If we were private citizens just discussing things, then I’d have respect for his right to his opinion - even if I disagree with it. As a professional, however, it’s not his place. He’s acting as a news ‘anchor’, not running an opinion show.
His mother must be so proud of him.
Agreed. Good post.
Photoshop Shep’s face.
#50. Re sending illegal invaders to shep’ house who would come in saying “Tu casa es mi casa”.
More likely some would be saying “Tu assa es mi assa”.
Ol’ Shep should learn from Megan.
He’s the one and only segment I
refuse to watch on Fox.
Mr. Full Retard boy.
Sorry, Shep. Mass migration led by a preponderance of military age males is exactly that.
And AIDS isn’t a homosexual problem...right Shep?
“Outnumbered” is on Fox News from noon to one.
