Road Trip: Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Tennessee

nasmidsouth2

Naval Support Activity Mid-South (NSA Mid-South, NAVSUPPACT Mid-South, NSAMS), in Millington, Tennessee, is a base of the United States Navy. A part of the Navy Region Southeast and the Navy Installations Command, NSA Mid-South serves as the Navy’s Human Resources Center of Excellence.

The base is host to several commands and other military tenants: Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command, the Navy Manpower Analysis Center, a Marine reserve Company - Bridge Company C (6th ESB, 4th MLG) and the US Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center. More than 7,500 military, civilian, and contract personnel are assigned/work on base.

nasmidsouth5

Initially established as Park Field, it was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entry into World War I in April 1917.

The Naval Support Activity has over 7,500 enlisted and officer personnel, civilians, and full-time contract personnel, who provide all essential logistic and operational support to the commands and activities on board. As the base has evolved and changed, so has its impact on the area. It plays an important part in the community and is one of the largest single employers in the state of Tennessee.

The base continues the goal to become the Navy’s premiere support installation by striving to maintain excellence in our facilities and services.  The efforts and accomplishments of the NSA Mid-South team have been recognized and rewarded the past several years by repeatedly earning both the Governor of Tennessee’s Quality Commitment Award and the Greater Memphis Association for Quality Leadership Award.

It’s typical. Something we go through every fall and spring and it isn’t fun. The pleasant days make the chilly ones hurt. LOL

I hope I can too. She’s just too tiny to be a mommy. I’ll give it a shot. If she goes in with others, I’ll just take ‘em all to the vet and let them sort it out. LOL! Then bring the others home with me.

I’m watching her ear. Don’t want her to have problems. It’s kind of tricky getting to touch it, so I do it when I can and she’s the least scared when she’s hungry.

Sugar came in the house this afternoon. Wandered around the kitchen, went out into the garage where she’d spent the night, then wanted back out. Funny part...she didn’t even find Ginger and Peaches’ food dish. She missed out, big time. :)

A very pleasant good Monday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks, Lauren for this morning's thread.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Yeah, it’s a scary thought, a tiny cat having kittens. I look at Suvi, who looks like she’s about 5 months old, and am glad she ended up here. Someone else might not have spayed her and I don’t know that she could survive trying to give birth.

I hope you don’t get stuck having to haul several to the vet in order to get her dealt with. That wouldn’t be a very fun trip for you OR the folks at the clinic. LOL

Too funny Sugar missed the food in the house. All those new sights and smells had her attention.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Another fine day for a trip to the lake with Gizmo?

How did it go with the check-up on the truck?

Well, the tires and the breaks are going to require future attention. Also, the upper and lower ball joints were found to be busted. They recommend having a tech inspect it. Also rodents chewed the washer line in a few spots. We have a bad rodent problem in this part of the country.

Other than that the pickup drives OK. Everything went well at the lake yesterday.

Her big blue eyes were huge as she crept around the room. I guess she felt she’d been there before. Grey and Stubbs have been in but they haven’t been as brave as she has.

I too am glad that Suvi didn’t have kittens. Poor tiny things. Or Pixie’s girlies!

I guess I should go get ready for bed. I’m actually getting sleepy. I tried to watch Raimis’s nest, but the wind was blowing like a banshee and then the cam went out. I hope there is a stick left of that nest. LOL!

Ouch! Cha-CHING! Gonna hurt a bit but you need to get those things taken care of before you drive the truck much more.
We have a bad rodent problem here, too, and they do love to chew wires. Mice and chipmunks are the worst about doing it in cars.

Glad y’all had a good time at the lake. I hope today is just as fun.

I wish you could have gotten a pic of her while she was inside. She has such a darling face and it was probably even more so, all lit up with wonder.

Yeah, it would be highly dangerous for Suvi or any of Pixie’s girlies to have kittens. It’s amazing how small they are! They’re like midget kittehs. We’ve had other small cats but none as small as they are.

I pulled up Raimis’s nest earlier this evening and the cam was already down. That wind is horrendous over there today. It was bad yesterday but got worse overnight. Janis has been out there but didn’t mention the nest. He just said there’s a serious problem that he hopes to be able to fix tomorrow. The wind is too strong to go up in the tree today.

I’m heading off to bed too. Got all the stuff I’m taking to the rummage sale this weekend priced and in a pile. I’m too tired to load it in the car tonight.

Catch ya tomorrow. Good luck with Coal!

Today would be a beautiful day for a hike, BUT the rental car does not allow pets.

So I will take a last ride on Blue before she goes into hibernation.

Tonight is pub nite, and also my B-I-L’s birthday party at the venue.

My car (the one that allows pets) is still in the shop.

Hope you enjoyed your trip to our Navy base, it's gone through some changes over the years we've been here, hubby is Ret. SCPO, retired out of Millington, taught A/B School on contract after till he got a job as a JR. Col. Prof doing the same thing.

It was originally a training base, now it's BUPERS Naval Personnel Records.

Do you all remember the Flood that hit Nashville a few years back? Millington is the opposite end of TN, near Memphis. This is what it looked like when the Levee broke during the Flood. Arial view S. Side of Base.
