A poll shows Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester barely leading his Republican challenger, indicating the seat might be within reach for the GOP.
A survey conducted by Montana State University and the Montana Television Network shows Tester beating state auditor Matt Rosendale, his Republican opponent, by 3 percentage points. The poll released Monday shows Tester pulling in 46 percent of registered voters to Rosendales 43 percent. Over 6 percent of respondents said they are still undecided.
The survey suggests a neck-and-neck race just two weeks ahead of Election Day.
In just 19 days, the people of this incredible state are going to send Matt Rosendale to the Senate to protect your jobs and your second amendment, President Donald Trump said at a rally in Missoula, Montana, on Friday.
The rally meant to bolster support for Rosendale and other statewide Republican candidates was Trumps third stop in Montana this election cycle, according to the Missoulian. The presidents involvement in the close election battle could prove critical. He won Montana in the 2016 election by over 20 percent and still remains popular among residents.

For Trump, Testers bid for a third term appears to be more personal than Senate elections elsewhere in the country. The president holds the Montana Democrat responsible for ruining Adm. Ronny Jacksons nomination to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Jackson, a former physician to the president, initially was in the running to head the VA, but withdrew in April after Tester presented unverified accusations that he was once drunk on duty and was loose with medication prescriptions.
Following Jacksons withdrawal, Trump called for Tester to resign.
Inside Elections rates the race as tilt Democratic and Sabatos Crystal Ball rates it as leans D. However, Inside Elections has called the race a toss-up.
Its my understanding that Tester always underperforms his polling... historically.
I believe, and have ALWAYS believed the ONLY red state democratic senator who has any chance of survival was and is Manchin in WV...
I do not think any other red state Democratic Senator has any shot of survival.
Obviously I will be watching all returns next Tuesday, but WV is the bellweather... if Manchin goes down, no Red State Democratic Senator will win re-election.
If the GOP had put up a better candidate in WV, Manchin would have zero chance of survival... sadly Morrissey is truly not ready for prime time and if he wins, then the Dems are looking at full on slaughter up and down the ticket nationally. Because the only way Morrissey wins is on the back of national momentum, not because of anything he’s done, and if the national momentum against the Dems is so strong it takes out Manchin in WV... it will be a DISASTROUS night for Dems in both chambers.
Just like FL in 2016 was the ONLY state of the swing states still in play on Election Night... WV is the ONLY red state Democrat I think is remotely in play this cycle.
MT is tough to crack because quite a few there never met an abortion of which they disapproved.
“Obviously I will be watching all returns next Tuesday, but WV is the bellweather... if Manchin goes down, no Red State Democratic Senator will win re-election.”
Don’t disagree. But my bellwether state is Florida.
If DeSantis wins and Scott defeats Nelson and we hold our own in the US House there, I may be convinced that it’ll be a better evening than expected.
Thanks Morgana. The DNC is drowning itself in its own bile.
Jon Tester was a fake from the beginning. A phony “conservative” when he ran, he turned into a Schumer robo-Sentor, and he really polluted the pooch when he went after Trump’s nominee for head of the VA, Ronny Jackson. Dr. Jackson had many very good reviews for his record, when Sen. Tester went all Ted Kennedy on him, and forced him to withdraw his nomination.
And almost all of it was totally scurrilous lies. The few little grains of truth mingled in were twisted altogether the wrong way.
Jon Tester deserves a humilitating defeat.
“What is the matter with Montana?”
You took the words out of my mouth! That said, there are a half dozen or more states that fit that same description. Can you say Ohio, Indiana, and Florida for openers.
House isn’t in play... Democrats Budd Dwyer moment ended any chance of them taking the house....
If the early voting totals remain, FL isn’t in play in any statewide race... R’s will take these 2 races handily.
This is a 6 point improvement, from an utterly ridiculous 9-point Tester lead.
So very true. My Radcliffe alum sister-in-law and her super liberal college professor hubby are case in point. She has a big trust fund she uses to finance Tester and other Democrat weasels.
Need I say I never talk to them?
To help counter I sent $ directly to the Rosendale campaign, bypassing the NRSC.
I think it started when Tom Brokaw and all of these obscenely rich, leftist talking heads and celebrities started buying land out there.
It’s depressing that the GOP couldn’t even mount a campaign against Sherrod Brown.
BUMP!
Mother McCaskill here in Missouri is another one. She needs to go. Seriously.
Yes...locals refer to Bozeman as Bozangeles. ..
This is a 6 point improvement, from an utterly ridiculous 9-point Tester lead.
