Gab has gone offline.
The self-described "free speech social media platform" is taking time off the internet, after landing under the spotlight when it was discovered the suspect involved in Pittsburgh's synagogue shooting was a poster and user on the site.

Gab posted a message on its homepage, announcing that the site will be "inaccessible for a period of time" as it works "around the clock" to transition a new hosting provider.
The platform has been banned by PayPal, and fellow online payment service Stripe is looking to cut off the site. Gab's new hosting service, Joyent, reportedly will suspend the site from 9 a.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 29.

Gab's domain registrar, GoDaddy, has also asked for the platform to take its business elsewhere.
"We have informed Gab.com that they have 24 hours to move the domain to another provider, as they have violated our terms of service," GoDaddy told Mashable in a statement.
"In response to complaints received over the weekend, GoDaddy investigated and discovered numerous instances of content on the site that both promotes and encourages violence against people."
BREAKING: @GoDaddy is threatening to suspend our domain (which is worth six figures) if we do not transfer to a new provider by tomorrow. This is madness. @realDonaldTrump @parscale I hope you are paying attention. pic.twitter.com/5hsXKW5NvB

Publishing platform Medium has also recently suspended Gab's account, under which the social site had made a statement stating that it "unequivocally disavows and condemns all acts of terrorism and violence." This statement has now been made unavailable.
Mashable has reached out to Medium for comment.
Gab is now banned from @medium, they are silencing our statement on the shooting. Here is an archive of it. You are pathetic @ev https://t.co/NJoT22v7WU https://t.co/m0AtHsBp4Q

So it begins.
Free Speech
07/04/1776 to 10-29-2018
Why is it that Facebook and Twitter are not shut down when Mass murderers are found to have pages on those sites ?
in Newspeak, “Free Speech = Racist Friendly”
Wonderful.
We can stop this, you know.
Likes protect likes.................
The Internet is basically owned by liberals..........................
It’s just capitalism at work. The constitution is silent on oppression of free speech.
-many a freeper
“@GoDaddy is threatening to suspend our domain (which is worth six figures) if we do not transfer to a new provider by tomorrow.”
My landlord is threatening to throw me out if I don’t leave right now
GoDaddy is the worst. I’ve been saying this for years. They sell your information to EVERYONE ON THE BROWN PLANET to call you. People who keep chickens in their bedroom and poop in the streets are given computers, phones and then told to call you. By the hundreds.
GoDaddy encapsulates all that is wrong with the internet.
Exactly! I think he shopped at Walmart too and maybe bought prescription drugs at CVS. Are they shutting down?
These are the things from which civil wars arise....so sad.
Go to www.spreely.com “Speak Freely” No filtering as far as I can tell!
In before “Muh private corporation” and “conservatives should just make their own internets.”
I want to see a new round of weepy, demoralized and despairing Democrats videos come the new year like we saw after ‘16.
It’s better to be a Deplorable than acceptable to the politically correct.
I always used to have as a part of the TOS on my site(s) clauses against hate speech and violence, we still promoted the concept of free speech, which was a contradiction, because at the same time, we always reminded people that the (US) first amendment is only a protection against government interference and doesn’t control privately run businesses and/or services. But the problem, I have noticed, with promoting the spirit of free speech is that it attracts those who can’t find another home for their radical messages to find a home with your site (or whatever platform or service you provide) and it gets to be quite a burden and quite contentious, because people will argue that defining hate speech is subjective, and they will do it for some of the most radical speech there is. They are partially self-delusional, but I believe part of them knows it’s fringe but defend it anyway because, well, they actually believe it.
Things like this remind me why I’m happy I got out of that world. I saw the writing on the wall well over 10 years ago. There are a lot of good people who will use the service for good, sometimes (harmlessly) bad things, but usually just for expression. But it takes a few bad apples. They are so very rare, but when everyone else rejects them and you don’t (albeit your intentions are grand) they will find you.
And it is sad, but to godaddy’s defense, and that host, they are not beholden to the first amendment.
Yes, free speech may have died today, in your opinion, but it was an illusion all along. These businesses don’t want to be associated with this event, and even though it may not have been Gab’s goal to provide harbor for someone like this, they still have to decide if un-moderated anarchy is really a virtue.
Refuse to use PayPal.
Any service that insists, either write a check or take a walk.
It’s not the website that’s the problem, it’s their ISP’s now. The ISP’s are the self appointed guardians of the Internet, now.
If they don’t like your site and your customers then you don’t get access to the Internet.
You can have all the PORN of any kind you want, but don’t you dare speak of freedom....................
OK, I’ll go ahead and say it: FR would be getting kicked offline too if we let NeoNazis run amok and spew their evil antisemitic hate porn. And if FR had opened pandora’s box to NeoNazis, then I assure you many of us would have been out of here pretty quickly.
I won’t tolerate NeoNazi antisemitism or racism in people and I have no patience or tolerance for those that do.
BTW, if you haven’t been to Gab, it looks like they have no objections to porn being posted on their site, as long as it’s in the porn categories.
It is very unfortunate that the big social media sites are trying to prevent any discourse on issues by conservatives, Trump folks, and other non-brainwashed people who are trying to help shape the direction America is heading.
If you want a site similar to Twitter, Face Book, etc., try https://friends.freezoxee.com/ They appear to be having some growing pains with occassional downtime, but I’m watching and waiting and giving them a chance.
Does Free Speech include Hate Speech? Does Free Speech include anger and rage? This is mental illness on display.
It’s only a matter of time until the gateway ISP’s get around to shutting down FreeRepublic, Conservative Treehouse and others. They just haven’t taken the time yet..............................
Free Speech is whatever they say it is..................
