Shot placement wins.
I wonder how many shots Martinez fired after being fatally wounded?
We learned the stopping power vs lethality edge in the Philippines.
Gave us the 1911.
Proof once again that shot placement beats caliber selection.
While this is not a case of a tax collector, it is a case of (probable) excess testosterone plus strong drink plus an excessive confidence in one's abilities and in one's large calibers. Also a case of youth meeting age and coming out the worse for it!
I think I remember Bill Frady saying last week something like:
Dont be cautious of the person who practices and trains with multiple guns and calibers. Its the guy who works with one gun over and over continuously that you dont want to get on the wrong side of.
Paraphrasing here, but you get the reference.
alcohol was involved...........................I already assumed so...................
This is Amazing.
"...Dakota Wayne Kirkman, 19 y.o. and Manuel Martinez III, 36 y.o...."
The 5 rules of a gunfight:
1) gun beats no gun
2) a hit beats a miss
3) fast beats slow
4) Big holes beat little holes
5) Two holes beat one hole
These are in order and a lower number will often over ride a higher number. This is demonstrated in this incident with #2 beating both #3 and #4.
Dakota Wayne Kirkman was found to be justified by a grand jury after being held in jail for 55 days, for lack of a $500,000 bond.
If only Martinez had a .45 ...
You know that a BB gun could put out your eye.
“alcohol was involved”... ..
A given!
If you ever go to Yoakum, Texas, stay off of Bootlegger Lane.
That’s what I always say.
So, size DOESN’T matter.
There’s hope for me...
I bet the deceased ran out of ammo and was shot while trying to reload.
I bet he’s a hunter and uses that 22 for squirrels and such. Never, ever get into a gunfight with someone who learned at the age of 10 how to hit a moving target 100 yards away.
Sun Country pilot arrested with loaded gun at Florida airport; his Minnesota permit to carry not recognized
Police say his Minn. permit to carry not recognized by Florida.
I’ve read a number of articles about this incident (not just the one linked to on Ammoland) and a couple things stand out at me. For one, Kirkland’s (the one shooting the .22) girlfriend is the sister of the deceased’s wife. Second, alcohol was involved (never said who was drinking, just that alcohol was involved) - my guess from grand jury verdict would indicate that it wasn’t Kirkland who was drinking. Third, Kirkland did himself no favors by leaving the scene after the shooting with his live-in girlfriend in tow before cops arrived - I suspect that contributed to the high bond being set, at least compared to if he had stuck around long enough to tell the cops on scene his side of the story.
Lastly - I hope Kirkland (or his g/f) have the common sense to realize that them being a couple isn’t such a good thing.......

Isn’t that where Li’l Abner and Daisy Mae live?

One other observation: angry people will often shoot at *things* if they don’t have a clear human target. This wastes ammo and identifies their location.
A calm, rational shooter will only shoot at an identifiable, hostile human target.
