I fervently hope that Trump is more committed to protecting our border against an invasion of migrants than he was with his order to “immediately declassify” and release the FISA docs. I’m a big Trump supporter but his credibility took a hit when he allowed Rod Rosenstein and our “allies” to get him to back track on his order.
You are right, he cannot back off on his threat to repel the invaders without suffering huge consequences. He needs to be decisive and close the border in my opinion. I also think he should be applying maximum economic pressure on Mexico. Its the only thing they understand and will respond to. They do not respond to talk.

Use Midway Island as a temporary holding center. It is literally a 1000 miles from anywhere and completely uninhabited. They can’t escape they can’t send money back.
There are old barracks on the island they could live in. Give them some seeds, basic gardening tools and fishing gear. Require the “Migrants” to participate in their own support by working the garden, catching the fish or doing maintenance on the facilities.
During WW2 there were a couple of thousand troops there so there should be room. If there isn’t let them build more barracks.
The island is not generally in the path of typhoons and has no dangerous predators like bears so the location would be safe. The climate while hot is not too dissimilar than the one they left.
Allow X,Y and Z Charities to provide some medical care and clothing.
On Sunday’s give them their choice of a Catholic or Baptist service should they choose to attend.
Tell them with the back log it will take at least 5 years before they have a hearing.
Any willing to wait that long may be real refugees.

After the burning heat ray gun idea that won't cause permanent damage but keep them from entering USA... I think this one is a great idea. They won't be in USA, others will see them disappear into the void and not willing to follow.
