Defense Secretary James Mattis is expected to sign an order sending up to 800 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border amid President Trump’s ongoing focus on a migrant caravan traveling to the United States, according to multiple reports.
Citing unidentified U.S. officials, reports said Mattis could sign the order as soon as Thursday to send hundreds of U.S. service members to help with logistical support such as providing tents and fencing.
A Pentagon spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
The Pentagon, though, previously said it had received no official request from the White House to send more troops to the border.
Since last week, Trump has said he plans to bring in the military to reinforce the southern border as a group of thousands of migrants makes it from Central America.
The caravan is currently traversing Mexico, and Trump administration officials have vowed not to allow the group to cross into the United States.
On Thursday morning, Trump tweeted that he is “bringing out the military for this National Emergency.”
“They will be stopped!” he added.
In April, Trump directed Mattis to send 4,000 National Guardsmen to the U.S.-Mexico border amid frustrations at the lack of progress on his proposed wall.
About 2,100 Guardsmen are currently providing technical assistance at the border.
800 troops for logistical support? Do they come with white flags. If this report is accurate, this is worse than not sending any troops at all. It will embolden the enemy and demoralize the conservatives just in time for the election.

We don’t have the legal authority to operate in Mexico as it is a sovereign nation with their own laws.

I think allowing a group of invaders to enter and traverse their country for hundreds of miles in order to illegally enter the United States gives us all the authority we need.
What is needed is daily formation fly overs of Warthogs, once they get close to our borders. Warns the invaders, the Mexicans and what are the Mexicans going to do? Shoot one of ours down? I don’t think so.

The US military did one time go all the way to Mexico City, and they occupied it.
They can’t or won’t stop the “caravan” so I don’t see how they could stop our military.

The President needs to get off Twitter and address the nation on TV. The left is going all out to undermine and minimize this national security threat of invasion while planting FAKE bombs domestically. The first caravan walked right in and the next will NOT be stopped by a small contingent on the border. The next caravan planned by the Soros/Clinton/Obama/DNC Cabal will be in the hundreds of thousands. Once enough illegals get in, the nation will be in name only.
People, this is just an advance party to scope out the area and prepare for the arrival of the main force. If there are 800 in this advance party, you can bet there will be 8-12K troops.
On D-Day, June 6, 1944, the 295th Supply company landed at H+ 2 hours. Logistics is important. Soldiers win battles; Logisticians win wars. That's a fact.
This is an invasion of the United States of America. 800 Troops? We need thousands in place now, ready to defend the citizens of this country.
