The European Parliament has voted for a complete ban on a range of single-use plastics across the union in a bid to stop pollution of the oceans.
MEPs backed a ban on plastic cutlery and plates, cotton buds, straws, drink-stirrers and balloon sticks.
The proposal also calls for a reduction in single-use plastic for food and drink containers like plastic cups.
One MEP said, if no action was taken, "by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans".
The UK will have to incorporate the rules into national law if the ban becomes a fully-fledged directive before the end of a Brexit transition period.

No spork for you!
Over 90 percent of the plastic in the oceans comes from ten rivers in Africa and Asia. But the EU decides to ban something that is basically a non-problem. Typical libs.
Plastic pens banned?
Accountable to no one!
How many times will they have to use their Garbage bags ?
Reminder: Don’t go to any doctors there.
Imagine the sleeves on ear/mouth/rectal thermometers.
Sharing is FUN!!
I m good. The plastic spoon I use to stir my coffee is about six months old.
Just think how much fresh soapy water will be used and discarged as a result
Every member should (N)exit without delay
The majority of ocean plastics comes from only a few rivers in Asia and Africa. Just stop exporting plastic to those countries.

It is about LOOKING good, not DOING good.
The beauty of virtue signaling is you don’t have to accomplish anything.
Like the Paris treaty.
Not to mention all the stuff hospitals and clinics use every day: plastic bandages, syringes, petri dishes, test strips for diabetics, etc.
Electric kettles, hair dryers, vacuums. Nobody said a peep. Link tax, meme ban, nary a wimper.
The EU can continue on its road to Hades with my blessing.
How about stop dumping garbage in the ocean?
Look at all the plastic in that room.
The original McDonald’s coffee stirrers would have passed muster.
Telling Africans or Asians to clean up their mess is racist
That’s all well and good I guess but the vast majority of the plastic ocean pollution is from Asia where they use their rivers as the dump and throw everything in it where it ends up in the ocean.
Unless the UK currently puts their plastic in the ocean; this will do nothing to lessen plastic ocean pollution.
