Anatomy Does Not Determine Gender, Experts Say
By Denise Grady
Oct. 22, 2018
Defining gender as a condition determined strictly by a persons genitals is based on a notion that doctors and scientists abandoned long ago as oversimplified and often medically meaningless.
Researchers who have studied gender issues and provided health care to people who do not fit the typical M/F pigeonholes said that the Trump administrations latest plan to define gender goes beyond the limits of scientific knowledge.
The idea that a persons sex is determined by their anatomy at birth is not true, and weve known that its not true for decades, said Dr. Joshua D. Safer, an endocrinologist and executive director of the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery at Mount Sinai Health System in New York. He is also president of the United States Professional Association of Transgender Health.
But exactly what does determine gender identity a persons powerful, core knowledge of who they are is not so clear.
We know that there is a significant, durable biological underpinning to gender identity, Dr. Safer said. What we dont know are all of the biological factors at play that explain gender identity. As far as we in the mainstream biological-medical community understand it in 2018, it is hard-wired, it is biological, it is not entirely hormonal, and we do not have identified genes, so we cannot specifically say it is genetic.

The first thing that happens to a newborn is blood tests, vaccines, sticks in it’s feet, weigh and measure, physical exam. The can always slip in a DNA test to make sure of the child’s sex et Al.
It’s not that complicated to find a solution.
Hmmm.... Elizabeth Warren claims to be a Cherokee, based on (at best) 1/64 percent probability; however, one cannot firmly identify a person’s gender on two (XX, XY) of the 46 chromosomes?
Jusf because someone is an MD doesnt make them an expert on human nature.
Inasmuch as masculinity is essentially performative, so too is the conceptual penis. The penis, in the words of Judith Butler, can only be understood through reference to what is barred from the signifier within the domain of corporeal legibility (Butler, 1993). The penis should not be understood as an honest expression of the performers intent should it be presented in a performance of masculinity or hypermasculinity. Thus, the isomorphism between the conceptual penis and whats referred to throughout discursive feminist literature as toxic hypermasculinity, is one defined upon a vector of male cultural machismo braggadocio, with the conceptual penis playing the roles of subject, object, and verb of action. The result of this trichotomy of roles is to place hypermasculine men both within and outside of competing discourses whose dynamics, as seen via post-structuralist discourse analysis, enact a systematic interplay of power in which hypermasculine men use the conceptual penis to move themselves from powerless subject positions to powerful ones.

Meiosis occurs in the prostate, now?
That’s correct - anatomy does NOT determine gender.
Anatomy is an outward (and also functional, if you are normal and of moderately young age) indication of what your gender is.
Anatomy is determined by your DNA. If you have 2 X chromosomes, then you are female. If you have 1 X and 1 Y chromosome, then you are male. This will be reflected in literally every single cell of your body. It will be manifested in your outward sexual characteristics/anatomy.
Of course, there are a few very, very unfortunate people, who don’t have either XX or XY chromosome pairs, and these people are just not normal (and, many times, they are incapable of reproduction.
As far as the current fad of “deciding” whether you are male or female...that makes as much sense to me as “deciding” that you are God. Either way, you simply cannot be what you decide, you are what you are. The whole point of maturing is to learn to accept the world as it is, and to attempt to change it in ways that are feasible. FWIW, changing one’s anatomy CANNOT change one’s sex/gender...but it can mutilate you to the point of not being able to reproduce. Perhaps that is a good thing, given that mental illness is at least somewhat genetic.
And they claim conservatives are anti-science.
Did these experts get their qualifications from the back of a matchbook ?
Calling a man a woman because he believes it to be so is akin to giving a man that believes he’s Napolean a sword and a funny hat and telling him that if he invades Russia he’ll feel better about himself.
Its real easy.
Holes or Poles.
Read my post again s-l-o-w-l-y....
Its amazing how liberals went from humoring us that same sex marriage is natural to telling us people suffering from gender identity disorder are normal.
Still trying to determine whats logical about it.
“Nutjob” must be plural. First, the so called “experts”. Then the writer of the article, who is stupid enough to believe that word carries any weight. That ship sailed long ago, about the time “experts” were predicting we’d all be dead now if we didn’t transfer a few trillion $’s to the Turd World via Al Gore’s carbon exchanges. PPPffffft!

Im getting tired of these clowns and we shouldnt be pushing their adgenda by publishing their BS here on FR.
No, it determines sex.
Abandoned by WHOM?
Certainly not any SANE person.
Chromosomes determine sex. There are 2 sexes. I am an expert on this. Have been since I took biology class in middle school.
