WASHINGTON Members of Congress from both parties made clear on Sunday that they wanted to see Saudi Arabia punished for the killing of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi, as President Trump shifted his tone again on the issue and joined the lawmakers in expressing doubt about the Saudi governments account of the death.
Obviously, theres been deception and theres been lies, Mr. Trump said in a telephone interview late Saturday with The Washington Post. Their stories are all over the place.
The presidents response to the Saudi accounts has likewise changed from day to day. Speaking to The New York Times on Thursday, Mr. Trump said he was confident in the intelligence reports about the episode, which paint a strong, if circumstantial, case that Mr. Khashoggis killing was ordered by the Saudi royal court.
On Friday evening, after the Saudis, more than two weeks after Mr. Khashoggis death, said he had been accidentally killed during a fistfight with Saudi operatives in Istanbul, Mr. Trump was asked whether he found it credible. I do, he said.
Lawmakers, several of whom had been briefed on the American intelligence, immediately rejected the Saudi account as lacking credibility. Allies of Mr. Trump like Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Representative Peter T. King of New York expressed some of the most scathing criticism.
In his interview with The Post, Mr. Trump reiterated his view that Saudi Arabia is an important ally of the United States, and praised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as a strong leader who can keep things under check. He added, I mean that in a positive way.
Mr. Trump said he did not know if Prince Mohammed had ordered the killing of Mr. Khashoggi.

Congress from the getgo has yelled for sanctions against Saudi Arabia even before any of the evidence was in. More never Trump policy? It’s too back Congress won’t act that fast on immigration reform.
Amazing how wonderfully stupid the Never Trumpers, the clowns in “Conservative Inc” and the Leftists are.
Really stupid for any US Citizen to be actively pushing this Russian/Iran propaganda line.
On a personal note, muslims offing muslims has yet to upset me.However, I suppose, whose ox is the one being gored determines the source of the outrage. And, if another is needed, this is additional proof that the main stream media and its puppets are the enemies of America and Americans.
And I care....5,4,3,2,1
Oops, care gone.
The faux outrage over the Hamas loving SA national is ridiculous.
An incestuous relationship, to be sure.
It is not at all clear which is the tail, and which is the dog.
CIA, Academia, Media, Leftist think tanks, all pretty much the same ideology.
The CIA has always leaned strongly to the left.
The FBI used to lean to the right. That has changed, as all can see.
Throw in the fact that 'operations' screw up. Some years ago, 'we' screwed up grabbing a guy in Italy. The cia clowns used their real names, used hotel points, etc. nuts.
I suspect there is some connection to the demonrats. Somehow, somewhere there are dots. Trump promised the wall and suddenly there is a wall of invaders. Trump is bringing back our allies and the world is starting to respect the US again. The dems can’t have that so they may be trying to break down relations hoping Trump will go off on the Saudis. If by chance they didn’t have anything to do with the assassination, they are embracing it and playing it for all it’s worth.
as horrific as the murder of this anti-American journalist is, don’t allow it to negatively impact the Trump peace plan for the ME. The President is doing some great work over there and the ME is calmer than any time in my lifetime. I wonder if this murder isn’t a setup to destroy all he has done and plans to do??
Doesnt compute with me ...
There are too probable potential answers to this:
1) MbS or another highly places Royal family member ordered Mr. Khashoggi killed and simply and grossly misunderstood the impact this would have.
It's one thing for a reporter/columnist to die during a war or civil unrest or have a suspicious "accident," but entirely another for a reporter, who works for a still influential paper (not as much as they were, but for the moment still influential), to be assassinated, in a consulate, in a country that has a beef with the Saudis.
2) The Saudi's wanted to corner and pressure Mr. Khashoggi while he was in their own building, and things got out of hand, and he died. Personally, I think the latter is what occured, Murphy's Law is coming into play and biting the Saudi's hard.
Regardless, this incident has provided Saudi foes plenty of ammunition. Saudi defenders, in contrast only have fig leafs. Khashoggi was no democrat and has much more than casual ties to extremists, but the manner and location of his death, are gifts to Saudi enemies.
As far as I’m concerned it was good riddance to bad rubbish. I understand he contributed once in awhile so how is he called a “journalist from the Washington Post?” Essentially, in a choice between the backstabbing nutjob Erdogan and Turkey’s recent history being anything BUT a NATO ALLY, I’ll choose to side with Saudi Arabia.
Thanks AW!M. It's only bipartisan if it fits the DNC talking points / narrative. Partisan Media Shills update.
