CNN) The National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday that the probable cause of a crash that killed 12 people on a church bus near Concan, Texas, in March 2017 was that the 20-year-old man whose truck hit the bus was under the influence of marijuana and a sedative.
In its report, the board says that there has been an increase in the number of drug-impaired drivers across the country and that something must be done about it.
That call to action seems to match up with a report released Thursday from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safetys Highway Loss Data Institute.

I've personally seen it destroy many lives especially the lives of young people as it serves as a gateway drug leading to harder stuff.
Many times I just wonder just why do I bother warning people about the dangers of these stuff as all I get is a cussing out from them, them hating me, and the equivalent of a "F### Off and leave me alone, as I'll live my life as I see fit"
That makes sad. Lived in Denver for ten years.
I swear, liberals destroy everything they touch. Plus the influx of Californians probably doesn’t help.
The MSM is afraid of the truth like Vampires to sunlight & garlic.
I hope you are right, Dr. :)
But yes Canadians tend to obey the law. I don’t want to give out too much information, but my husband works for a federal government agency. And he gets very upset when our son downloads illegal stuff to watch a TV show. :-)
Amazing you increase the number of available intoxicants and you have more intoxicated people driving!
Whodathunk?
And no I don’t support the 18th Amendment!
“I used to smoke pot (now weed) and drive, all the time. I dont remember being impaired. /s”
You’d think the accident rate would go down with everyone driving at 5 mph.
I understand. I follow the president on Twitter but invariably the replies are negative. I admire his courage. I can’t stand to go there.
I used to smoke pot (now weed) and drive, all the time. I dont remember being impaired. /s
Your statement applies to me without the sarcasm. I was in Denver recently and tried pot for the first time in decades (pot tourist. I guess). No way I could drive afterwards. I would assume quite a few people did as I did and drove straight into an accident.
Best of luck to your friends. He will always have Freepers prayers. As do you, exDemMom! :)
Julie
Car A, traveling at 5 mph, struck cat B traveling at 3 1/2 mph.....
Well, you have a brain and are smart. :)
I hope you are ok.
Dudes and ladies, don’t vote to legalize pot because more people will die in traffic fatalities and because the quality of life will be diminished for everyone.
But alcohol is worse. / sarc
So two wrongs make a right. WTF?
And yes, the risk of lung cancer is great. No different that cigarettes. Actually it is potentially worse because the user holds his breath after toking to increase the absorption of the drug exposing the lungs longer.
I think I see the problem.
For all cannabis growers and producers — make a statement to the public with claims that cannabis, on the record, is harmless.
Then, when it proven that it is harmful, causes cancer and all of the same nasty things that cigarettes cause, you will be on record, like the tobacco companies for misleading consumers about the safety risks of cannabis. I dare you!
