[[and she said the stink bugs were particularly horrible this summer.]]
A lot of liberals are leaving the states because they are so traumatized by trump - so yeah, the stink bugs would be bad in canada this year
[[The article states lanternfly eggs can be killed with alcohol]]
Not gonna work, they are tea-totalers
Thanks for your comment. She’s not in Ontario, Canada...she lives in Ontario, NY...which is north of Rochester, NY.
ah- didn’t know there was such a place-
Diversity, just wonderful!
I have found spray carburator cleaner to be quite effective on these SOB’s.
Especially combined with a BIC lighter!
;-)
This is the time of year the stink bugs try to get into the house. I cut them in half with a scissors. It’s crazy how the top half runs around without the lower half of its body. They can live for hours like that.
I’m about 40 miles south of you.
I’ll keep an eye out for the critters...
Suspect that Imitacloprid would work better.
Tree removal services made a fortune.........
There was a lesson in that tho, don't populate a city with just one species of tree........
I know a farmer out in N.W. Kansas who would just leave the freshly cut and rolled hay bales out in the fields to be picked up when he needed to feed his cattle. I asked him why he didn't store them all together and he said if there were ever a fire, his entire cattle's food supply for a year would be wiped out.
You don't put all your eggs in one basket.
I’m glad you haven’t gotten them yet. We didn’t see any in our area until this spring when I spotted those white and black baby ones on my roses.
Sevin dust seemed to help but those little ones move very fast and hop away.
I have huge old Norway Maples in my yard that I haven’t seen any on. My Red Maple gets covered with the adults and we spray every few days. My neighbors Apple trees are destroyed by them. I’m trying that Bayer insecticide that you put around the roots and hoping that will kill the eggs they are laying.
Thank God they don’t stink or sting.
“Insects invading Virginia and Pennsylvania could be ‘most destructive species in 150 years’...”
They are known as northeast democrats...very dangerous.
Thank you for the heads up.
I wondered which hardwood would be next.
For the love of mike could we please quit importing these pests while we still have a few trees left?
Globalization, baby. Cheap imports from all over.
A great many things will never be the same in America. Glad Im older
and knew her then. I miss much of Grandpas America. (Neccos are gone now, too.)
Mainly depends on whether this pest can develop resistance. Some beetles and bugs developed resistance very quickly. Also depends on how it is applied. DDT works on mosquitoes mainly because it sticks to the low objects mosquitoes land on and can kill large percentages of the mosquitoes. Malarial mosquitoes can be completely wiped out by these methods. It seems unlikely that spraying a forest from top to bottom is going to be viable.
That looks like Chinese lespadeza
