In the spring of 1990, after he had helped the first George Bush reach the presidency, the political consultant Lee Atwater learned that he was dying. Atwater, who had just turned 39 and was the head of the Republican National Committee, had suffered a seizure while at a political fund-raising breakfast and had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. In a year he was dead.
Atwater put some of that year to use making amends. Throughout his meteoric political rise he had been known for both his effectiveness and his brutality. In South Carolina, where he grew up, he helped defeat a congressional candidate who had openly discussed his teenage struggles with depression by telling reporters that the man had once been hooked up to jumper cables. As the campaign manager for thenVice President George H. W. Bush in 1988, when he defeated Michael Dukakis in the general election, Atwater leveraged the issue of racea specialty for himby means of the infamous Willie Horton TV ad.

I still believe Hart did NOT want to run and made that ridiculous dare knowing the press would discover his affair...after only 1 week.
Only because he was a DimocRat
The infamous Willie Horton ad was done by an independent group, in support of Bush, during the campaign. Gore attacked Dukie’s furlough program in the debate, but never ran ads on it.
Looks like a “tell,” a lot like the Witch’s campaign cancelling the fireworks display they’d scheduled for the night of the 2016 election.
“Not a all like some of the dogs that Billy Bob Clinton went after.”
Dogs?
Grow up!
.
Oh I’m sorry, I meant Skanks
Fun fact...
The original song recorded by Rick Nelson was written by Gene Pitney, a pop star in his own right.
If he did it intentionally there had to be more than that to the story.
If you don’t want to run, just don’t run. You can announce you’re dropping out for personal reasons or health reasons or whatever.
You don’t soil your reputation intentionally, cause your family pain, just to drop out of a race. If it was intentional the only think I can think of was blackmail.
This was the worse.
Bush > Clinton > Bush > Clinton
That was the Deep State plan.
Hart was in the way.
I agree; but, even if he was set-up, at this point, does anyone care?
Wow, I had no idea that woman was so unattractive. He is Arnold Swarznegger, couldn’t he cheat with someone better looking?
Compared to today’s immorality that’s quite an innocent photo.
Mr. Happy says ...Yes!
Well....dems are not the brightest bulb in the pack.
Perhaps Hart wanted out to have a life with Ms Rice and wanted to inflict mucho pain on his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Whatever the reason...deep in his heart, Hart knew his dare would end his campaign.
That had to have happened due to partial blindness by having his eyes poked.
Hart was a brilliant campaign organizer. He managed George McGovern’s campaign through the Democratic convention and beat the Dem establishment at ever turn. After the Dem convention the usual political hacks pushed Hart and his young campaign staff aside and took over.
Hart hired a young Pat Cadell as his pollster during the primaries and managed to position McGovern as a political maverick who was able to gain the support of both liberal Dems and blue collar workers. After the Dem convention the hacks had McGovern on platforms shaking hands with corrupt pols like Richard Daly, who McGovern and many Americans despised, and McGovern lost any credibility he had. McGovern would have been much better off sticking with Hart.
Gary Hart set himself up.

Of course.
I bet the reported conversation with Atwater never happened.
Chicka wah, wah..
