President Trumps support among U.S. troops appears to be fading, with a new survey from Military Times showing that support for him has ebbed during the past two years while his disapproval rating has increased.
The survey of 829 respondents, conducted between Sept. 20 and Oct. 2, showed that the percentage approving of Trump has declined to 43.8% from 46.1% two years ago, while those disapproving rose to 43.1% from 37%.
Respondents who were neutral on Trump declined from 17% to 13%, suggesting political polarization inside the military community has intensified in recent years, the publication said. Military Times is owned Sightline Media, a private publisher with roots stretching back to 1940, when it was known as Army Times.
In comparison, President Trumps Defense Secretary James Mattis received an 84% approval rating from respondents.
Female respondents, who made up 11% of the total, were more likely to disapprove of Trump, with 28% showing support and 69% disapproving. Among male respondents, 47% approved of Trump while 38% disapproved. Trumps support was strongest in the Marine Corps and Navy, while those in the Air Force and Navy were more critical. Around 21% of respondents from the Army were neither favorable nor unfavorable, making it the most undecided branch of the armed forces.
Trump won praise in the survey for increasing spending on the military. Criticisms centered around his temperament. To me, it seems like his presidency is a popularity contest for his ego, a Navy petty officer told the Times.

Pretty much. Any polls being touted by Time/CNN/Fortune just before the midterms, has to be treated with the greatest sceptism. These outfits have been pushing fake suppression polls for decades.
I need to talk to one of my boys, who is a Lieutenant in the NG in a South Carolina unit. He’s more administrative than combat, but his head is screwed on right. I’ll run this by him.
Not surprising the bulk of military are young just out of high school with little real world experience. Average age in the US Military is 21.
Not surprising that their outlook pretty much matches their age group out side the US Military. This is a generation brainwashed to believe what they hear propagandized on Social Media is “real” and everything else “fake”
I am too.
They would love it.
This is a b.s. poll run by a liberal outfit to convince military types not to vote Republican or risk being an outcast of the liberal hive mentality.
Fake poll. Fake news.
Isn’t Military Times a Gannett rag?
If not fake it shows we are taking WAAAAAAAY too many Liberal women into the military.
“Criticisms centered around his temperament.”
I’m so sick of hearing people whine about Trump’s temperament.
Anyone else find it hard to swallow?
~~~
Maybe Monica Lewinsky does
I doubt that it was. You can choose whether that’s a dig on Bill or Monica.
I dont believe this poll.
Anyone else find it hard to swallow?
This rag is as reliable as the poster is when it comes president Trump!
The “Military Times” pub is rather left-wing I believe..... I doubt the poll is conducted honestly and scientifically.
BOL! Great catch!
Trumps support was strongest in the Marine Corps and Navy, while those in the Air Force and Navy were more critical.
I hope the pole takers were more careful that the article’s editor.
I was never polled about the CIC. In six years.
Think about it, if I were polled I’d give both Ford AND Carter high marks.
Just not buying it.
I take a look at marinetimes.com most days, just to check out the headlines, etc.
There are a lot of left-leaning themes and headlines.
I also expect that the survey concentrated on some populations of military personnel who would be expected to be anti-Trump. One thing that has been done in the past couple years is to require troops (all branches) to be deployable or get out of the service, which apparently is not sitting well with some.
The Marines understand what winning is about.
Is Military Times being used as a propoganda piece in the Gun Control fight?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of veterans that want gun control. I am not one of them. I feel the laws are strict as it is. You do have to go through a background check, despite what some might lead you to believe, and I generally and truly believe only criminals pose a significant risk. Gun control won't stop them. Just my ability to defend myself against them.
Enter the recent column by former USMC SGT Matthew Hess, which has graced the front page of MilitaryTimes and the subsidiaries. The title is Veterans should lead the push for more secure gun laws.
To me, this reads more like a piece of propaganda than an actual bona fide opinion column. I have a sixth sense with these, given my time as a reporter for my college Newspap
