A Fish and Game commissioner in Idaho who came under fire for circulating images of he and his wife posing with dead animals during a hunt in Africa resigned on Monday, saying he had made "poor judgments."
In a letter to Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter, the commissioner, Blake Fischer, said those judgments "resulted in sharing photos of a hunt in which I did not display an appropriate level of sportsmanship and respect for the animals I harvested."
While claiming the photos were out of character, Fischer apologized and said he hoped the photos would "not harm the integrity and ethic" of the Idaho Fish and Game Department.
Fischer was criticized by former commissioners for sending the photos to them and others in a Sept. 17 email. In the note, which was obtained through a public records request, Fischer said the hunt occurred after he and his wife traveled to Namibia for a couple of weeks a trip that was his third to Africa and her first.
"First day she wanted to watch me, and 'get a feel' of Africa," he wrote. "So I shot a whole family of baboons. I think she got the idea quick."
The images showed Fischer and his wife smiling above the bodies of various animals, including several monkeys.

Total puss.
Not one damn thing.
Sorry, I don't give a damn what you can see.
A Leopard as well.
So your in favor of killing Giraffes? For what purpose?
Monkeys taste greasy...like coon
No its not a storm front joke
Ive had monkey in Brasil a lot
Not my favorite
Boy talk about tone deaf about acceptable pics
And yes I hunt
I hunted past tense....a lot
In the south if you dont hunt you might be a fag
It is one thing to go and hunt wild animal, for food. But to go out and simply shoot them for sport, is purely disgusting. Who needs to shoot a giraffe, a monkey, etc.?! Did he eat them?
I don’t trust a fish and game commish that doesn’t hunt.
“Baboons raid crops and are known to attack people. Theyre pests.”
You mean Democrats?
I used to bond on photo safaris, back in the day. That was plenty challenging and dangerous.
Giraffe is a food staple in Namibia.
It has fed (probably) hundreds.
What this man paid for his permits
to hunt, add to the country’s
economy. And, thinning out the herd
promotes a healthy population.
As for the baboons, I would liken
that to shooting Jack rabbits.
They’re pests.
You say poh-tay-to, I say poh-tah-to....
Read the article, saw the picture, This guy is just plain STUPID.
Why the hell would you kill something you have no intention of eating?
The hunters I know, including myself, hunt to put food on the table.
If I hunt something just for the pleasure of killing, it would be cockroaches.
And probably termites.
There’s a difference between hunting and just plain KILLING.
Anyone interested can go to YouTube and search baboon against leopard. Why- I dont care, did he eat it- I dont care, was it legal- I would hope so, was he stupid to post the pics on social media? Yeah. Most of our fish cops out here in the west are weenies from back east. College kids. One-less to have sucking money out of the state funds. Hope they hire a smarter replacement. IMNSHO.
hunting threads always bring the best out in folks...sure glad you all are not in charge of my fun....sure glad state laws still allow hunting for fun and sport....
I agree that his mistake was to post
a hunt on social media. I’ve got a
lot of photographs documenting many
hunts over the years. I’m still guarded
as to who sees them.
Yep! I hunt a lot dont kill every time. I go fishing a lot dont catch every time. In the end I kill it a grill it. In the case of trout, my wife does the eating, Id rather have perch. They crop elephants to control the herds. Locals eat it. If you dont like hunting fine gives me more room. I dont eat wolves or coyotes but I kill them every chance I get. Might say were competitors on the food chain. I pay to play deal with it.
